Cards board 15 B-cuts in win over rival
The No. 10-ranked University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team swept rival Kentucky Saturday afternoon in the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The women won 190-110 and the men prevailed 200-100.

"It is a rivalry meet but we have to approach it like a regular dual meet and continue to make forward progress and that was my challenge to the group," said UofL coach Arthur Albiero. "We had to find the little problem areas and correct them. We also found some new ones and we will correct them as well. I loved the energy that we came out with right from the first relay. It is hard to keep the energy and focus up for the entire meet and we did a great job all the way through. "

The Cards posted 15 NCAA B-cuts  and had multiple event winners led by Trevor Carroll's three individual event wins (200-free, 50 free and 500 free) and the 400-free relay. Grigory Tarasevich swept both backstroke events and was on both relay wins. Andrea Cottrell swept both breaststroke events and was on both relay wins. Carlos Claverie won both breast events and was on the winning 200-medley relay team. Kelsi Worrell won the 100-free, 100-fly and was on both winning relays. Freshman Mallory Comerford won the 200-free and the 50 free and was on the winning 400-free relay as just some of the Cardinal highlights.

The Cards came out of the gate hot when the women won the top two spots in the 200-medley relay. Alina Kendzior (25.68), Andrea Cottrell (27.50), Kelsi Worrell (23.01), and Andrea Kneppers (22.91) combined for a 1:39.10. The Cards' B-relay team of Mackenzie Buss( 26.71), Rachael Feldman Bradford (29.01), Hannah Magnuson (24.51) and Alex Sellers (23.33) combined for a 1:43.56.

The Cardinals touched 1-2 in the men's 200-medley relay when Grigory Tarasevich (22.49), Carlos Claverie (24.37), Josh Quallen (20.96) and David Boland (19.73) combined for a 1:27.55. Â The B-relay of Aaron Greene, Dexter Thomas, Pedro Coutinho and Matthias Lindenbauer joined forces for a 1:30.77 and second place.

The Cats won the 1000-free when Kathryn Painter touched in 9:58.59. UofL's Marah Pugh was second with a 10.01.89.  Jake Schultz was fifth in the men's 1000 with a time of 9:41.04 as the fastest Cardinal.

The Cardinal women went 1-2 in the 200-freestyle, led by Mallory Comerford's win in 1:47.74 for a B-cut Andrea Kneppers was second in 1:49.86. Alex Sellers was fourth in 1:53.43.

In the men's 200-free, Trevor Carroll won with a B-cut 1:37.84 followed closely by Matthias Lindenbauer's 1:37.84.
Alina Kendzior won the 100-backstroke, posting an NCAA b-cut time of  54.21 for UofL and teammate Ashley LeClair was third in 55.39.

Grigory Tarasevich and Aaron Greene went 1-2 in the men's 100-back with a B-cut time of 47.59 and a 49.84 respectively. Christian Garkani was fourth in 50.83.

UofL's Andrea Cottrell won the 100-breast with a B-cut 1:01.37 followed by freshman Card Rachael Bradford Feldman's 1:03.99, who touched second. Lucy Kramer was fifth in 1:05.33.

Carlos Claverie cruised to a win in the men's 100-breaststroke with a B-cut of 54.48 for the Cardinals. Dexter Thomas was third in 57.17.

In the 200-fly, UofL's Abigail Houck took top honors with the winning time of 2:00.46. Cardinal Marah Pugh wa second in 2:01.77. Devon Bibault was fourth, scoring points with a time of 2:03.33.

In the men's 200-fly, UK won when Kyle Higgins touched in a B-cut time 1:47.76, out-touching UofL freshman Zach Harting's 1:48.57. Â Josh Quallen was third in 1:49.65 and Ryan Massey was fifth in 1:52.14.

In the women's 50-free, Mallory Comerford and Andrea Kneppers swept the top two spots in 23.29 and 23.77. Maggie Patterson was fourth in 24.53.

Trevor Carroll powered to a win in the 50-free for the Cardinal men with a B-cut time of  20.06. Matyi Kovacs was third in 21.30.

UofL's Kelsi Worrell won the 100-free with an NCAA B-cut time of 48.94 just ahead of Andrea Kneppers' 51.40. Alex Sellers was fourth in 52.86.

The Cardinal men went 1-2 in the men's 100-free race which was won by Matthias Lindenbauer's 44.82. He touched just ahead of David Boland's 45.10.

Kentucky's Danielle Galyer was first in the 200-back with a B-cut 1:57.18. Alina Kendzior was the top Cardinal with a third place finish of 1:59.89. Ashley LeClair was fourth in 2.01.91.

In the men's 200-back, Grigory Tarasevich was into the wall first, going 1:45.42 for a B-cut. Nolan Tesone was second in 1:46.23 and Aaron Greene made it a 1-2-3 sweep with a 1:47.82. 500

In the women's 200-breast, Andrea Cottrell touched first in 2:14.02 and Rachael Bradford Feldman was second in 2:14.04 in the slimmest of margins and both were B-cuts. .Â

Carlos Claverie won the 200-breaststroke by almost six full seconds with a time of 1:58.28 for a B-cut. Todd Owen was third in 2:05.62.

In the women's 500-free, Wildcat Geena Freriks took top honors with a 4:51.12. UofL's Mallory Comerford was second in 4:53.35 and Marah Pugh was third in 4:55.70. Abigail Houck scored with a fourth place time of 4:57.77.

The men's 500-free was won by UofL's Trevor Carroll, who posted a 4:28.97, five seconds ahead of UK's Drew Aviotti's second place time of 4:33.43. Louisville freshman was third in 4:33.83.

In the 100-fly, Cardinal Kelsi Worrell cruised to the win with a B-cut 53.37. Hannah Magnuson was third for the Cards.

The UofL men took the top three spots in the 100-fly, led by Pedro Coutinho's winning B-cut time of 48.14. Josh Quallen was second in 48.40 and David Boland was third in 49.05.Â

UK won the women's 1-Meter diving when Rebecca Hamperian posted a score of 285.68. Andrea Acquista was second with 27a 3.53. Maddy Ingmire was third with a 267.08.

In men's 3-meter diving, Kentucky took the top two spots, led by Seb Masterson's winning 374.03. Sean Piner was the top Cardinal with a third place score of 310.50.

In the women's 3-meter diving, Rebecca Hamperian made it a sweep with a winning score of 319.65. Andrea Acquista was second with a score of 317.18. Maddy Ingmire was fourth with a 287.55.

Cardinal senior Nolan Tesone won the 200-IM with a B-cut time of 1:48.31, with Carlos Claverie touching second in 1:49. 15 and Josh Quallen completing the sweep with a third place time of 1:51.47.

The Cardinals won the women's 400-free relay when Mallory Comerford (51.26), Kelsi Worrell (48.89), Abigail Houck (51.52) and Andrea Cottrell (51.79) combined for a 3:23.46. The B-relay of Cardinals Hannah Magnuson (51.86), Ashley LeClair (51.66), Marah Pugh (51.52) and an anchor of 51.48 by Alex Sellers touched second.Â

The men punctuated the  with a 1-2 finish in the 400-free relay led by the A-team's 2:57.02 put up by David Boland (45.25), Trevor Carroll (43.73), Grigory Tarasevich (44.01) and Matthias Lindenbauer (44.03). The B-relay team of Pedro Coutinho, Jonathan Zoucha, Max Grodecki and Christian Garkani combined for a second place time of 3:02.43.
