Bio
Junior: Pedro was All-ACC in two events and scored 33 points at the ACC Championships, highlighted by a gold medal in the 100-fly, when he touched in 45.92 in lane 9. He also finished in the C-final in the 100-free, with a 44.75. He was a part of the gold medal 400-medley relay team, splitting 45.70. At NCAA National Championships, he touched 11th in the 100-fly with a 45.84. At the USA National Championships, he competed in the 100-meter fly. At the USA Short Course Nationals, Pedro was fifth in the 100-fly with a 46.4 At the Arena Pro Series at Charlotte, he finaled in the 100-meter fly with a 55.74 and in the 50-meter fly in 24.89. He also was a part of the second place 4x50 medley relay team, splitting 20.60. Individual highlights in the dual season included a win in the 100-fly versus Xavier, a win in the 100-fly at the Louisville Invitational. He earned second place points in the 100-fly versus Indiana and Ohio State and versus rival Kentucky.
Sophomore: Pedro took the 100-butterfly title and was a part of the winning 200-medley relay at the American Conference Championships to gain himself All-American Conference team honors. He was chosen to help in the relay events at the NCAA Championships while finishing 28th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.05.
Freshman: Coutinho competed at his first BIG EAST Championships as an exhibition swimmer in his freshman year. Coutinho swam the 50-freestyle in 21.18, the 100-freestyle in 46.34 and the 100-butterfly in 48.32. Coutinho also competed at the Purdue Invite, where he finished 6th in the 100-butterfly in 49.34, swam the 200-butterfly in a prelim time of 1:57.29, the 50-freestyle in 21.17, and the 100-freestyle in 47.42. For the dual meet season, Coutinho took 2nd in the 100-butterfly against Xavier, and 3rd in the 100-butterfly against UK in 50.10.
Prep: Brazilian native Pedro Coutinho attended high school in Plantation, Fla. Where he swam club for the Davie Nadadores for coach Alex Pussieldi. He placed second in the 100-fly in the Brazilian Junior Nationals and competed in the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships (LCM) and the Speedo Sectionals. He also competed in the Indy Grand Prix.
Personal: Son of Judes and Edna Coutinho. Born February 24, 1994. Major is Civil Engineering.
