Bio
Junior: As a junior, Marah competed in the ACC Championships in the 400 IM, placing 24th with a 4:21.51. At the UofL Invitational, she scored a whopping 110 points, placing no lower than third in any of her individual events. She took second in the 400 IM (4:12.05 and 1650 free (16:27.78), as well as taking third in the 500 free (4:44.47) and 200 fly (2:01.10). Marah proved to be a formidable force for the Cardinals in the distance events throughout the dual season, scoring victories in the 1000 free against North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Missouri.
Sophomore: At NCAAs, Marah was a part of the 7th place 800-free relay team (6:59.58) with an anchor of 1:47.09. She also competed in the 500-free and the 200-fly. Marah scored 37 points at the ACC Championships. She was a part of the bronze medal 800 free relay team (7:01.01) with a split of 1:46.32. She finished 17th in the 500-free finals with a time of 4:44.97. She was 8th in the B-final of the 400-IM, clocking a 4:19.00. In the grueling 1650, she was 10th with a time of 16:33.20. In the dual meet season, highlights included a win in the 1000 versus Cincinnati (10:09.80). She had seconds in that same event versus FSU (10:04.83) and Kentucky (10:01.89). In the 200-fly, she broke the two minute mark with a 1:59.91 at the UofL Invitational. At the Arena Pro Series in Indy, she was 19th in the 200-meter free with a 2:02.46. She was a finalist in the 200-meter fly with a 12th place time of 2:15.45. She was 22nd in the 400-meter free with a time of 4:23.44 and was 13th in the 800-meter free with a time of 9:03.39. In Charlotte, she finished 15th in the 400-IM (4:57.82), 13th in the 200-meter fly with a 2:16.58 and a finalist in the 400-meter free with a time of 4:23.82. At the US Open Championships, she finished 7th in the 200-meter fly (2:14.40), and 23rd in the 400-meter IM with a 4:59.73. She was a part of the 4x100 free relay team that won bronze with a 3:46.81 with her anchor split of 56.72. She qualified for the US Olympic Team Trials where she put up a 2:03.05 in the 200-meter free. She was named to the All-ACC Academic team.
Freshman: Marah Pugh made an immediate impact for the Cardinals distance swimmers. She was a point scorer at the ACC Championships with a 13th place finish in the 1650- freestyle, posting a time of 16:36.71 which was six seconds faster than her qualifying time. She also made the B-final in the 500-free with a 15th place time of 4:49.87. In the dual meet season, she won the 1000 versus Xavier, with a time of 10:00.73. Other dual highlights include winning the 500-free at the Louisville Invitational and placing second in the 1000-free against North Carolina. She was third in the 1000 free against Auburn and Tennessee and second versus UK in the same event with a 10:08.57. At USA Short Course Nationals, Marah was 15th in the 1650-free with a 16:29.30. She also competed the 400 IM at USA Nationals.
Prep: Marah joins the Cardinals after attending Dakota High School in Michigan where she was a state champion as well as an All-American in the 200-free and 1500-free. She was also a qualifier for Junior Nationals and Nationals. She swam for Macomb Marlins and finished 2nd at YMCA Nationals in the 1650-free. Marah also holds age-group state records in the 400-, 1000-, and 1650-freestyles. While swimming, she was also an All-American in track and cross-country.
Personal: Daughter of Gary and Helen Pugh. Born on September 5, 1995. Major is finance.
