
Department Highlights
- The Cardinals posted the highest combined winning percentage in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball among Power 4 schools.
- Ten University of Louisville athletic teams recorded a perfect 1,000 APR score for the most recent 2023-24 data include men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, men's soccer, softball, women's track and field, and volleyball.
- Every UofL program ranked above the required 930 minimum score for the four-year, rolling APR, which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes. This year, the four-year APR score was a multi-year average of the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.
- UofL also reached a department-record 96 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the latest report released by the NCAA in November. Eighteen programs achieved a GSR of 90 or higher, while nine programs recorded a perfect 100 mark. UofL finished the 2024-25 campaign with 10 different sport programs ranked in the top 25 at one point during their seasons, with 11 earning trips to the postseason.
- Louisville finished 37th in the nation in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the 15th consecutive season that the Cardinals have finished among the top 40 teams in the country.
Team Highlights
- The football team won nine games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2014. Running back Isaac Brown, a freshman All-American, became the first true freshman to rush for over 1,000 yards
- Under the leadership of Pat Kelsey, the men’s basketball team advanced to the ACC Tournament Championship game and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019.
- Hosting the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Final Four, the Cardinals advanced to their second appearance in the national title game before falling to Penn State in four sets.
- Women's Swimming & Diving placed seventh in the team standings at the NCAA Championships, their eighth time finishing in the top eight in 10 years. The Louisville women went 7-0 during the dual meet season, their first undefeated season since at least 1995-96.
- The Men’s Swimming & Diving team finished 14th at the NCAA Championships, their 13th consecutive top-15 finish.
- Denis Petrashov, who won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Singapore, finished as the national runner-up in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 200 breaststroke, while Jake Eccleston placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke.
- University of Louisville women's track & field redshirt senior Synclair Savage captured the national title in the women's long jump. With the victory, she becomes the fifth outdoor NCAA champion in program history and the first since 2022, while also becoming the first in program history to win the national championship in the women's long jump.
- Seeded eighth entering the competition, Savage leapt from fourth place to the top of the leaderboard on her final attempt with an incredible mark of 6.72m (22-0.75) that broke the previous program record of 6.64m (21-9.5) that she set two weeks ago at the NCAA East Regional.
- Louisville baseball made its sixth College World Series appearance, winning the Nashville Regional at No. 1 overall seed Vanderbilt before winning the Super Regional over Miami in three games at Jim Patterson Stadium.
- The Louisville All-Girl cheer squad won the Advanced All-Girl Division 1A National Championship, its 11th straight national title.

Baseball

- Louisville finished with a 42-24 overall record, reaching the College World Series for the sixth time during Dan McDonnell's tenure. The Cardinals matched the program's best-ever finish, going 2-2 in Omaha to reach the bracket final.
- Lucas Moore earned second team All-American honors after a breakout sophomore season. Moore led the nation with 53 stolen bases, the second-most in Louisville history, and finished second nationally with 85 runs scored. Moore was the first Power Four player to swipe at least 50 bases since 2012.
- Eddie King Jr., Jake Munroe and Kamau Neighbors were each named to the College World Series All-Tournament Team. King had a postseason to remember, earning Most Valuable Player honors at the NCAA Nashville Regional before the All-Tournament selection in Omaha.
- Tague Davis became the latest Louisville player to earn Freshman All-America honors after setting the UofL freshman record with 18 home runs in his first season.
- Patrick Forbes was selected in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the first Cardinal picked in the first round since 2021. Jake Munroe, Matt Klein, Tucker Biven, Eddie King Jr., and Justin West also had their names called in the draft.
- Zion Rose, Lucas Moore and Tague Davis were each part of the USA Collegiate National Team during the summer.
Men's Basketball

- Louisville posted a 27-8 overall record and 18-2 mark in the ACC, advanced to its first-ever ACC Tournament Championship game.
- Louisville returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in six years, playing just down the road in Lexington, Ky., as an eight-seed against nine-seed Creighton.
- Head coach Pat Kelsey was named ACC Coach of the Year and a Naismith Coach of the Year Semifinalist.
- Louisville had two All-ACC selections in Chucky Hepburn and Terrence Edwards Jr. – both players were also named to the All-ACC Tournament Team and Hepburn was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
- The Cards returned to the AP Top 25 for the first time in four years and were one of the most improved teams in the country in both total wins from the previous season and in NET rankings from the end of 2023-24 to the end of 2024-25.
Women's Basketball

- The Cardinals won 20-plus games for the 15th consecutive season after finishing the year 22-11. It is the fourth-longest active streak in the country and the longest active streak of any team in the ACC.
- Louisville finished tied for fourth in the ACC standings and have finished in the Top 5 in the league standings in each of their 11 seasons in the ACC. They are the only team in ACC to finish in the Top 5 of the league standings in each of the last 11 years.
- Tajianna Roberts earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors five times during the season, the most rookie of the week honors of any Louisville player in a single season in program history. She was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and second team All-ACC. She was one of just two freshmen to be named to an All-ACC team this season.
- Jayda Curry tallied 41 points in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It is the most points scored in an NCAA Tournament game in Louisville program history. She surpassed the previous record of 35 that was set by Angel McCoughtry in 2008.


Cross Country
- The women's team placed seventh at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, their best finish at the meet since 2017.
- Geoffrey Kirwa qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championship after finishing seventh at the Southeast Regional, becoming the first Louisville male to qualify for the national championship since Edwin Kibichiy in 2016.
- Kirwa's seventh-place finish made him the first Cardinal to earn All-Region honors on the men's side since 2022, while Rylee Penn became the first Card on the women's side to garner All-Region distinction since 2019.
- With a 17th-place showing at the ACC Championships, Layla Roebke became the first on the women's side to earn All-ACC laurels since 2019.
Field Hockey

- The Cardinals finished the season with a 6-11 overall record and a 1-7 mark in ACC play in a rebuilding year following the loss of nine letterwinners including five NFHCA All-West Region selections.
- Fifth-year senior Aimee Plumb earned her third NFHCA All-America and all-ACC honors and earned NFHCA All-West Region recognition for the fifth straight time.
- Plumb and junior Izzy Bianco earned NFHCA All-West Region honors.
- Junior Rylie Wollerton led the team with a career-best 17 points (7G, 2A).
- In the spring, Plumb was honored with the ACC Excellence Award.
- Head coach Justine Sowry completed her 14th season at Louisville. She has guided the program to a 186-97 record in her tenure.
- In the spring, Plumb was honored with the ACC Excellence Award and earned College Sport Communicators Academic All-American honors for the second time in her career.
Football

- The Cards won nine games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2014, finishing the 2024 season at 9-4 overall. The Cards closed the season with three-straight wins, which culminated in a Sun Bowl win over Washington.
- Running back Isaac Brown set the freshman record for rushing yards with 1,173 yards and set the mark for the most rushing yards by a true freshman. Brown was named the ACC’s Offensive Rookie and the League’s Rookie of the Year.
- Quarterback Tyler Shough, wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks and running back Isaac Brown became only the second Louisville trio to pass for 3,000 yards, record 1,000 receiving yards and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season.
- Brooks became the eighth different player to record 1,000-yards receiving in a season after registering 1,013 yards.
- T.J. Quinn led the Cards in tackles for the second-straight season after he recorded 86.
- The Cards led the country in blocked kicks with six.

Men's Golf

- The Cardinals were selected the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional and were making their seventh consecutive regional appearance. Louisville made its 15th trip to the postseason and its 10th in the last 12 seasons.
- The Cardinals finished regional action in a tie for seventh place at the Tallahassee Regional, with Cooper Claycomb finishing in a tie for 19th – the highest of the group.
- Sebastian Moss won three tournaments over the course of the season to give him five in his career.
- Moss closed the year with a 70.03 stroke average, which led the team. He posted top 20 finishes in nine of the team's 10 events and had six in the top 10. The senior finished his career with a 71.80, which ranks third all-time in school history.
- The Cardinals won the Bearcat Invitational and had two other second-place finishes.
Women's Golf

- The Cardinals reached the NCAA Regionals as a team for the 15th time in program history and the third time under head coach Whitney Young.
- Louisville finished seventh overall in the NCAA Regional after putting together their best round of the season in the final round. The Cardinals were 8-under-par 280 as a team in the final round, the lowest team round since the fall of 2019.
- The Cardinals captured a team win at the Robbie Invitational in October, their first win as a team since October of 2021.
- At the Robbie Invitational, Thienna Huynh came away with the individual win, the first of her career. It was the first Cardinal individual to win a tournament since Carmen Griffiths in October of 2022.
Lacrosse

- The Cardinals finished the 2025 campaign with a 7-10 overall record and a 1-8 mark in ACC play.
- With 10 players sidelined throughout the season due to injury, Louisville battled through a strength of schedule ranked No. 29 that included national champion North Carolina and semifinalist Boston College.
- On Feb. 10, the Cardinals were ranked No. 19 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine weekly top 25 following a 10-8 season-opening win over then-No. 15 Denver.
- Sophomore Reese Whiteman led the team with a career-high 26 goals and 32 points.
- Graduate senior Ashley Osborne closed her career having played in 82 career games, setting a new school record. She led the team with 25 ground balls. She accumulated 106 in her career, becoming the eighth player in program history with 100 or more ground balls.
- Senior J Pleck collected 258 saves in her career, becoming the seventh player in program history to surpass the 200 save mark. She is ranked fifth on Louisville's all-time list.
- Head coach Scott Teeter completed his eighth season at the helm.
Rowing
- Louisville posted a 10th place finish at the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. The highly-competitive ACC field featured eventual national champion Stanford along with Cal, Virginia and Syracuse who finished the season ninth, 10th and 12th respectively at the NCAA Championships.
- Kaylie Leonard was named to the All-ACC third team.
- While competing at the 2025 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta, the Cardinals' Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Novice 4 boats collected gold medals with the Varsity 4A earning the silver in the 'A' final.
- Head coach Derek Copeland completed his 14th season at the helm.
Men's Soccer

- The Cardinals finished with a 6-7-4 overall record in 2024.
- Louisville reached as high as No. 15 in the national rankings after opening the season with three consecutive victories.
- Leon Kondic's game-winner in the final minute of regulation gave the Cardinals a 1-0 win over No. 15 Kentucky in September.
- Gage Guerra was an All-ACC selection after leading the Cardinals in goals (9) and points (21). Guerra joined Portland Timbers2 of MLS Next Pro following the season and later signed a first team contract with Portland Timbers of MLS.
- Josh Jones earned All-ACC honors for a second straight season and signed a professional contract with Louisville City FC.
Women's Soccer

- The Cardinals finished the season 7-6-5 overall and were 6-2-3 in games played at home. It was the first season since 2019 that they finished the season above .500. It was also the most home wins in a season since 2019.
- Louisville began the season unbeaten through the first seven games (5-0-2). It was the first time since the 2019 season that the Cardinals were unbeaten through the first seven games of the season.
- The Cardinals scored seven goals in the season-opening win over Bellarmine, the most goals scored in a single game since 2018.
- Brooke Dardano finished the season with seven assists, which is tied for fifth most in a single season in program history. It is the most assists by a Louisville player since the 2018 season.
Softball

- Louisville finished the 2025 season with a 26-25 overall record, including ranked wins over No. 6 Florida State and No. 25 FAU.
- The Louisville offense had a standout year that saw it record the second-most triples (24), second-most stolen bases (90), and fourth-highest on-base percentage (.386) in program history.
- Char Lorenz earned Freshman All-America and All-ACC honors after leading the team in batting average, slugging percentage and RBIs. Her 53 RBIs set a new Louisville single-season freshman record.
- Thirteen Cardinals earned Academic All-ACC recognition – Ally Alexander, Sam Booe, Bri Despines, Maddi Grant, Riley Janda, Camryn Lookadoo, Char Lorenz, Easton Lotus, Chelsea Mack, Taylor Monroe, Madison Pickens, Katie Thatcher and Alyssa Zabala.
Men's Swimming & Diving
- The men’s swimming & diving team finished 14th at the NCAA Championships, their 13th consecutive top-15 finish.
- Denis Petrashov finished as the national runner-up in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 200 breaststroke, while Jake Eccleston placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke.
- The men’s team finished fifth at the ACC Championships, where Tommy Bried (400 IM) and Petrashov (100 breaststroke) both captured ACC titles.
- Over the course of the season, the Louisville men broke four program records, including Petrashov’s ACC record in the 100 breaststroke.
- Eccleston set a new national age group record in the 200 breaststroke at the ACC Championships, clocking the fastest time in United States history for a 17-18-year-old.
Women's Swimming & Diving
- The Louisville women placed seventh in the team standings at the NCAA Championships, their eighth time finishing in the top eight in 10 years.
- The 200 freestyle relay team of Caroline Larsen, Julia Dennis, Gabi Albiero and Ella Welch finished as the national runner-up at the NCAA Championships, where five individuals and four relays earned All-American honors.
- The Cardinals placed third at the ACC Championships, their ninth consecutive top-three finish at the conference championship meet.
- The women’s team set four new program records throughout the season, including Dennis’s record in the 50 freestyle that moved her up to sixth in collegiate history.
- The Louisville women went 7-0 during the dual meet season, their first undefeated season since at least 1995-96.

Men's Tennis

- The Cardinals faced 14 ranked teams throughout the season; all but one ACC opponent the Cards played in the regular season was ranked.
- Junior Will Mayew was ranked as high as No. 80, Natan Rodrigues at 88 and Rodrigues and doubles partner Hamza El Amine were as high as No. 77.
Women's Tennis

- Louisville posted a 13-10 overall record, including a ranked victory over No. 35 Clemson. The Cardinals defeated Florida State in the opening round of the ACC Championship before bowing out in the second round.
- Alice Otis had a 10-9 record at No. 1 singles, while Allie Gretkowski led the Cards with a 13-5 singles mark.
- Five Cardinals were named to the All-ACC Academic Team. Allie Gretkowski and Berta Miret earned their second All-Academic honor. Germany Davis, Elisabeth Iila, and Alice Otis were on the team for the first time.
- Mark Beckham completed his 18th season at the helm of the program and received a three-year extension to keep him at the helm through the 2028 season.
Men's Track & Field

- Louisville finished 23rd at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, its best finish since 2017 and recorded its highest point total since 2010.

- KJ Byrd notched a fourth-place finish in the outdoor men's decathlon to earn All-America honors, backing up his All-American performance in the indoor heptathlon. Byrd was named the ACC Men's Indoor Freshman of the Year after becoming the first in conference history to win the ACC Championship in the heptathlon.
- Paul Kallenberg (men's outdoor decathlon) and Roman Kuleshov (men's outdoor triple jump) also garnered All-American distinction. Kallenberg won the ACC Outdoor Championship in the men's decathlon.
- The Louisville men set eight new program records over the course of the year, including Kirwa's ACC record in the steeplechase that ranks him second in collegiate history.

Women's Track & Field

- Louisville recorded the top finishes in program history at both the ACC Outdoor Championships (second) and NCAA Outdoor Championships (17th).
- Synclair Savage became the fifth outdoor NCAA Champion in program history, taking home the top spot in the long jump with a program-record mark of 6.72m. Savage was also named the ACC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year and the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
- Jayden Ulrich earned three separate All-America honors, doing so in the indoor shot put, outdoor shot put and outdoor discus throw – winning the ACC Championship in all three events. Ulrich also earned ACC Outdoor Championships Women's Field MVP honors after scoring the most individual points at the championship meet.
- In addition to Savage and Ulrich, three other Cardinals claimed All-America honors – Ashley Callahan (outdoor pole vault), Sharvari Parulekar (outdoor triple jump) and Jade Whitfield (outdoor discus throw).
- Assistant coach Bob Thurnhoffer was recognized as the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.
- The Louisville women broke 14 program records throughout the season, including Jayden Ulrich's ACC record in the discus that ranks second in NCAA history.
Volleyball

- Coach Dani Busboom Kelly and the Cardinals capped off a historic 2024 season with their second national championship appearance in three years while boasting a final record of 30-6 (17-3 in ACC play) and earning a final national ranking of No. 2.
- The Cards earned a top-four seed in the NCAA tournament, knocking Chicago State and No. 8 Northern Iowa out in the first and second rounds before sweeping No. 4 Purdue in the Sweet 16 and beating No. 2 Stanford in four sets to clinch a spot in the Final Four.
- In the national semifinals, the Cards punched their ticket to the national championship at the KFC Yum! Center by besting the top overall seed Pittsburgh in four before falling in the national title game to Penn State.
- Charitie Luper and Sofia Maldonado Diaz were named to the All-Tournament team, while Anna DeBeer was named MVP of the Louisville Region. Charitie Luper and Elena Scott were also recognized as All-Regional for their efforts in the first four matches of the tournament.
- Four Cards earned All-American accolades in 2024, led by Scott and DeBeer, who earned first and second team All-American honors, respectively. Additionally, Cara Cresse and Luper were recognized as Honorable Mention All-Americans.
- The Cardinals also fared well at the conference level as Scott claimed her second consecutive ACC Defensive Player of the Year and setter Nayelis Cabello earned ACC Freshman of the Year.
- DeBeer, Luper, and Scott were all named First Team All-ACC, while Cresse was tabbed for Second Team honors and Cabello claimed a spot on the Freshman All-ACC team.
