Cardinals Cap Off 2026 Season at NCAA Outdoor Championships
June 14, 2026 | Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Louisville women's track & field team capped off the 2026 outdoor season on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field
Alba Cuns Iglesias, the lone competitor of the day for the Louisville women, earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in the women's triple jump in her NCAA Championships debut. After missing the entire 2025 season due to a spinal fracture, the redshirt junior put together the best season of her career, qualifying for the national championship meet for the first time and also posting a runner-up finish in the triple jump at the ACC Outdoor Championships in May.
The Louisville women ended the meet in a tie for 45th in the team standings with five points, all of which came from Ashley Callahan's fourth-place finish in the women's pole vault on Saturday, where she set a new ACC and program record with a clearance of 4.64m (15-2.75).
The Cardinal men finished seventh in the team race with 32 points, racking up the largest NCAA Championships point total in program history while matching the 2007 squad for their highest team finish ever.
Geoffrey Kirwa claimed the national title in the men's 3000m, KJ Byrd finished as the national runner-up in the men's decathlon, and Elsingi Kipruto posted top-three individual finishes in both the men's 5000m and 10000m.
The Cardinals have now scored on both the men's and women's sides at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in five straight seasons, while recording a total of four top-25 finishes in three seasons under Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Joe Franklin.
