Geoffrey Kirwa (men’s 3000m steeplechase), Ryan Farrell (men’s 800m), Roman Kuleshov (men’s triple jump), Miller Jones (men’s triple jump), and Elsingi Kipruto (men’s 5000m) earned spots in Eugene.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's track & field team earned five more individual qualifications to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East First Round in Lexington.
With one day remaining at the regional meet, the Cardinals have combined to punch 13 tickets to the national championship meet in Eugene, Ore., the most for the program since the NCAA switched to a two-regional qualification system in 2010.
The Louisville men will enter the NCAA Outdoor Championships in mid-June with a total of nine qualifications, the most in program history for the men's squad.
Geoffrey Kirwa got the afternoon started for the Cardinals in the men's 3000m steeplechase, earning his second consecutive qualification to the NCAA Championships after finishing as the national runner-up in the event a year ago. The sophomore cruised to a time of 8:21.35, the third-fastest time in the field, to win his heat and secure the automatic qualification for the national championship meet.
Ryan Farrell became the second athlete in program history to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the men's 800m, continuing his breakthrough season with a time of 1:45.73 to finish fifth in the East. The time also crushed his own previous program record of 1:46.24 that he set at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Apr. 17.
A pair of Cardinals earned bids to the national championship meet in the men's triple jump, as Roman Kuleshov and Miller Jones both posted top-five finishes to secure their spots in Eugene.
After qualifying for NCAAs in the men's long jump on Wednesday, Kuleshov posted the top triple jump mark in the region with a wind-legal personal best of 16.36m (53-8.25) that improves on his No. 3 mark in program history. With the dual qualification, the redshirt senior stands as the only athlete in the NCAA this season to qualify for nationals in both the men's long jump and men's triple jump and becomes the first Louisville athlete to do so since Andre Black in 2008.
Jones, a Division II All-American during his freshman season at Colorado Mesa University, punched his first career ticket to the NCAA Division I Championships in the men's triple jump, notching the fifth-best mark in the East with a wind-legal personal record of 15.95m (52-4) that propelled him up to fourth in the Louisville record books.
Elsingi Kipruto was the final qualifier of the night for the Louisville men, earning his second national championship berth of the meet with a ninth-place finish in the men's 5000m. The freshman battled to a heat-winning time of 13:49.03 to earn the automatic qualification and become the first athlete in Louisville history to qualify for NCAAs in both the 5000 and 10000m.
Leo Brewer also contested the men's 5000m, closing out his stellar collegiate career with a time of 14:07.59 that was good for 25th place.
The Louisville women will look to add to the total number of national qualifiers tomorrow on the fourth and final day of the NCAA East First Round, with the Cardinals set to field eight athletes across three different events.
