Bio
Junior: UofL swimming continued to benefit from the versatility of swimmer Ryan Massey. At the ACC Championships, he scored 47 points, making the A-final in the 400-IM with a seventh place finish of 3:48.80. He also made the B-final of the 100-back with a 47.71. He made the B-final in the 200-fly with a time of 1:46.94. During the dual meet season, he swam IM and fly. At the Arena Pro Series in Indy, he was a finalist in the 400-meter IM with a fifth place finish (4:27.54) as well as the 100-meter back (57.80), the 200-IM (2:06.00) and the 200-meter back (2:09.76). At Charlotte, he was a finalist in the 400-IM (4:31.45) and the 100-meter back (58.54). At the US Open Championships he finished 10th in the 400-meter IM (4:25.19) and helped the Cards to a fourth place finish in the 4x200 meter free relay (7:29.98) with a split of 1:53.98.
Sophomore: Ryan provided depth for the Cardinals in many different events during his sophomore campaign. Ryan posted season-bests at the Louisville Invitational in which he recorded B-cut times in the 200 IM (1:48.47) and the 400 IM (3:53.54). Massey swam his season best of 4:39.73 in the 500 free against UNC and also finished fourth in the 400 IM against the Tar Heels. Massey added depth to the Cardinals by swimming in multiple events against Cincinnati and Kentucky. Against Florida State, he was third in the 400-IM with a time of 4:04.65. At the USA Short Course Nationals, Ryan made the finals of the 400-IM, where he finished 22nd with a 3:55.83
Freshman: Ryan is a multifaceted swimmer, competing in backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley events throughout the season. He posted regular season-best times against Kentucky in the 200-IM, going 1:54.81, and at the Michigan Invite in the 400-IM, 100-back, and 200-back. His times for those were 3:52.74, 50.22, and 1:48.16, respectively. He went 1:57.51 in the 200-fly versus Tennessee. At the AAC’s Ryan recorded his best times in the 200-IM, going 1:50.28; he went a B-cut time of 3:51.81 in the 400-IM, and swam a 1:47.32 200-back all in exhibition.
Prep: Ryan Massey joined the Cardinals from Spring, Texas where he swam for Premier Aquatics Club of Klein and for Klein Oak High School. While competing for his high school Massey earned two silver medals, a bronze medal and was named a sixteen- time Texas 5A All- State Selection. Massey also earned Scholastic All- American, NISCA All- American, and Outstanding Senior Athlete honors.
Personal: Ryan Massey is son of Doug and Debbie Massey. Born April 25, 1995. Major is mechanical engineering.
