No. 9/6 Cards Complete Day 1 of Texas Showdown

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 9/6 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams each come in at second place heading into Saturday's action, while both teams placed second at Friday's evening competition. Friday's morning session saw the Cardinals sitting with 246 points behind only Texas' 264 and ahead of Ohio State's 227 for the women. The Cardinal men scored 215 points with UT leading the way with 256 and Ohio State at third with 159.
In Friday evening's competition, the UofL women earned 325 points, just under Texas' 334 and in front of Ohio State's 275. The men claimed 300 points, also below Texas' 377 and above Ohio State's 257.
Saturday morning's action is set to start at 11 a.m. ET. Live results will be available on the Meet Mobile app and DiveMeets, and the meet will be streamed on SECN+

Louisville began the Friday morning session with a strong showing in the relays. The women put up the fastest time in the 200 free relay with a 1:26.35 turned in by Caroline Larsen (21.89), Julia Dennis (20.96), Julie Mishler (21.72) and Ella Welch (21.79). The Cards dueled the Texas A-relay down the stretch, with the Longhorns going 1:26.88. The UofL men followed suit, putting up the fastest time of 1:16.33 posted by Nikita Sheremet (19.07), Charlie Crush (18.96), Aiden Musso (19.12) and Guy Brooks (19.18).
Anastasia Gorbenko had the fastest time in the 50-breaststroke throwing down a 26.28 with Mia Cheatwood's 27.26 good for the third slot. UofL's Finnley Conklin had the third fastest time for the men's 50 breast, with a 24.30 just ahead of teammate Grant Gooding's 24.52.
In the 400 IM, Texas' Campbell Stoll put up the fastest time with a 4:05.79 with Louisville senior Kim Herkle posting the fourth-place time of 4:11.10 and Summer Cardwell stopping the clock in 4:17.62 to rank sixth for the A-final. UofL's Jackson Millard had the second fastest time in the men's 400 IM, putting up a 3:41 with teammate Gregg Enoch placing fourth with a 3:46.62.
Longhorn Eva Okaro put up the fastest time in the 50 fly, with a 23.35. Larsen went 23.52 for second and Welch was fourth in 23.66. Dennis won the second heat with a 23.78 just out-touching teammate Karoline Barrett's 24.24. Ohio State's Matthew Klinge had the fastest 50 fly with a 20.38. UofL's Musso was third (20.84) tying with teammate Rian Graham.
In the 50 backstroke, UofL put up the top two times led by Camille Murray's 24.31 with Mishler finishing second, going 24.38. Abby Karl was second in the second heat, turning in a 24.93. In the men's 50 back, Longhorn Will Modglin had the fastest time with a 20.75. Crush was the top Cardinal with the third-place time of 21.62 just edging fourth place finisher Graham, who clocked in at 21.70. UofL's Filip Kosinski won the second heat with a 22.02.
The 400-medley relay foursome of Murray (52.03), Gorbenko (56.60), Welch (51.61) and Dennis' anchor of 47.16 combined for the winning time of 3:27.40. The Cardinals beat the Texas A-relay's second place finish by almost three full seconds. The Louisville men's A-relay team touched third with a 3:07.52, posted by Graham (46.56), Jake Eccleston (52.44), Musso (45.90) and an anchor of 42.33 by Brooks.
In 1M diving, Louisville's Audree Brazeau-Howes scored a 237.65 for seventh place and teammate Samantha Keith was eighth with a mark of 204.20.

For the women, Louisville A-squad of Mishler, Gorbenko, Larsen, and Dennis placed first with a time of 1:33.49, flying past Texas A-relay by almost three seconds. Louisville B-team with Murray, Cheatwood, Barrett, and Welch took third, posting a 1:36.74. On the men's side, Graham, Conklin, Musso, and Sheremet led the Louisville A-relay to a second place showing, notching a 1:23.80. Louisville B-squad of Crush, Gooding, Aidan Paro, and Ethan Chauliaguet claimed fifth with a time of 1:25.04.
In the 200 free A-final, Daria Golovaty led the UofL women, earning fifth with a 1:44.99. Cardwell wasn't far behind, securing sixth posting a 1:45.88. In the B-final, Xeniya Ignatova came out on top for the Cardinals with a fourth-place time of 1:46.48. Amelia Bodenstab notched sixth with a 1:48.98. On the men's side, Brooks took the top overall spot, clocking a 1:32.61, barely edging Texas' Rex Maurer. Matias Santiso claimed a fourth-place time of 1:35.40. In the B-final, Enoch posted a third-place finish, turning in a 1:35.87. Oscar Isberg came in fifth, recording a 1:38.98.
Isberg topped the Cardinals in the 500 free with a fourth place 4:18.01 finish. Enoch took sixth with a 4:23.04 showing. The B-final included Tommy Bried (4:21.90) placing fourth and Kayden Lancaster (4:24.31) earning fifth. Thilda Hall paced the Louisville women in fourth place with a time 4:41.55, while Leticia Fassina Romao secured sixth posting a 4:44.96. Golovaty notched second in the B-final, clocking a 4:42.21, and Ignatova turned in a 4:47.97 to claim sixth.
Murray earned the fastest time in the 100 back at 51.67, just beating out Texas' Emma Kern. Mishler rounded out the top three touching 52.29. In the B-final, Abby Karl (54.97) took fifth and Sadie Murphy (55.77) placed sixth. The men's side included Kosinski (46.23) finishing third and Graham (46.48) securing sixth. Millard led the B-final, notching a second-place time of 46.71. Nate Thomas came in fourth with a time of 47.42.
Gorbenko started her historic night in the 100 breast, setting a school record with a time of 57.67, taking charge over Ohio State's Maria Ramos Najji by over a second. Cheatwood closed out the top three clocking a 59.38. Herkle grabbed the top spot in the B-final with a time of 1:00.77, while Anna Inagaki turned in a third-place time of 1:01.35. Conklin paced the men at third place, notching a 52.74. Eccleston followed in fourth, posting a 53.15. The B-final included Crush (53.70) taking second and Gooding (54.10) finishing third.

Santiso battled for a sixth-place time of 45.52. In the B-final, Chauliaguet (43.83) posted a third-place finish and Lancaster (44.55) turned in at fifth.

Enoch paced the men with a third-place time of 1:44.90, while Millard followed at fourth with a 1:45.24. The B-final included Bried (1:46.11) at second and Paro (1:50.10) at third.
