2024-25: Summer Cardwell had a notable performance at the 2025 ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., where she scored 39 points. In the 200 freestyle, she finished 8th with a time of 1:44.59. She also swam the second leg of the 800 freestyle relay, splitting 1:44.98, helping the team finish fifth in 7:01.66. She touched 13th in the final of the 500 free with a 4:42.54 and was eighth in the 200 free (1:44.59). She finished 22nd in the 1650 free, turning in a 16:37.93. At the 2025 NCAA Championships in Federal Way, Washington, Cardwell again swam the second leg of the 800 freestyle relay, splitting 1:43.79, contributing to the team's 12th place finish with a time of 6:56.86. She also competed in the 200 freestyle individually, finishing 37th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:45.71. She went 4:44.20 in the 500 fee and 1:57.61 in the 200 fly. In dual meets Summer Cardwell achieved several top-five finishes. Against Auburn, she won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.33 and was third in the 200 IM (2:02.02) In the meet against Notre Dame, she was third in the 500 freestyle, posting a 4:47.78. Against Tennessee, she was third in the 1000 free (9:53.62) and fourth in the 500 free (4:45.67). At the Missouri meet, she secured first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.10 and was third in the 1000, going 10:02.92. In the dual meet with Kentucky, Cardwell was second in both the 200 freestyle (1:46.55) and the 500 freestyle (4:45.44).
2023-24: In her first year as a Cardinal, Summer earned All-American Second Team honors as part of the 800 free relay team that touched 13th with a time of 6:57.65. She finished 30th in the 200 freestyle (1:44.94) and 45th in the 500 freestyle (4:44.27). She scored 36.5 points at the ACC Championships. She won silver as a part of the 800 free relay team (7:00.31). She made the B-final of the 500 free, finishing 11th overall with a time of 4:46.32. She finished third in the B-final of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.94 and was in the C-final of the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.52. In the dual season, she finished fourth in the 200 free in her debut as a Cardinal, going 1:53.42. Against Auburn, she won the 500 free (4:49.33) and was third in the 200 IM (2:02.02) and helped the 200 free relay to a second-place finish in 1:35.12. Against Tennessee, she won the 400M freestyle (4:16.63) and was third in the 200M freestyle (2:02.39). In the meet with the Irish of Notre Dame, she won the 500 freestyle (4:55.76) and was second in the 1000 free (10:09.28) and helped the Cards win the 400 free relay in 3:21.77. In the Missouri meet, she won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.66 and was fifth in the 200 fly (2:01.37) and was on the third place 400 free relay squad that posted a 3:19.89. She had a pair of wins against rival Kentucky, touching first in the 200 free (1:45.19) and the 500 free (4:46.26) and was on the fourth place 400 free relay team. In the double dual meet with Indiana and Wisconsin, she was second in the 200 free (1:44.95), third in the 500 free (4:43.18) and was a part of the fourth place 400 free relay team (3:15.56). Against Cincinnati, Summer won the 200 fly (2:00.54).
Prep: Summer Cardwell comes to the Ville from Clearwater, Florida. She did her club swimming with Tampa Bay Aquatics and competed at the 2021 Speedo Summer East Championships where she earned bronze in the 200m free with three additional top-14 finishes. She also collected the silver medal in the 800m free at Huntsville Futures in the summer of 2021 after taking fourth in the 200m free and 11th in the 400m free at Wave I of Olympic Trials. She was also the 200 free champion at the 2021 Florida Senior Championships before going on to win the 200m/400m free at the 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando back in 2021. At the Toyota U.S. Open in 2020, she placed ninth in the 400m free and 13th in the 200m free. Also competing for Countryside High School, she is a 12x time Florida State Champion across multiple events (200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Back, 500 Free, 100 Free) (SCY).
Personal: She is the daughter of Matt and Adrienne Cardwell. She was born Oct. 17, 2004. Her major is chemical engineering.
