No. 9/7 Swimming and Diving Complete Racing at Ohio State Invite

Men are second; Women are third
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After three days of racing the No. 9/7 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming teams completed the Ohio State Invitational. The Louisville men placed second and the women were third.

The Louisville men scored 2324.5 for second, trailing only Indiana's 2857.5, followed by Ohio State (2050), Yale (1,182.5), Penn State (1,061), Cincinnati (852), Northwestrn (237.5) and Notre Dame (Dive only) 29. The women scored 1,986 points, trailing only winner Indiana (2526.5) and Ohio State (2413.5) followed by UCLA (1,503), Notre Dame (917), Cincinnati (895), Penn State (746.5), Yale (690), Rutgers (279.5) and Northwestern (114).

In the grueling 1650 freestyle, Ohio State's Mila Nikanorov won with a time of 15:49.26. Louisville's Summer Cardwell was the top Cardinal, touching 13th with a time of 16:37.06 (B-cut) , with Merve Tuncel turning in a 16th place time of 16:49.08. Yale's Noah Millard put up the fastest time in the 1650 with the winning time of 14:33.47. The top Cardinal was Eli Shoyat, who went 14:56.84.

In the 200 backstroke, IU's Anna Peplowski checked in a 1:51.13 for the win. UofL's Rye Ulett was 10th, posting a 1:57.89. Louisville's Filip Kosinski was the top Cardinal finisher on the men's side with a seventh place time of 1:43.28 and Jackson Millard was tenth (1:44.45). IU's Owen McDonald put up the winning time of 1:38.07.

Louisville's Julia Dennis won the 100 free, pulling away from the field with a 47.87. Gabi Albiero tied for fourth with a time of 48.45. Daria Golovati was seventh (48.55), Caroline Larsen tied for eighth, putting up a 48.78 and Lucy Mehraban was 10th, going 48.97. All the Cards' times were B-cuts.  Cardinal Guy Brooks won the men's 100 free in a wild finish, winning by .01 with a 42.25. Teammate Murilo Sartori touching fifth in 42.84 and Matias Santiso putting up the seventh place time of 43.17 – all were NCAA B-cuts. .

In the 200 breast, UofL's Mia Cheatwood was second with a time of 2:08.57 just off the pace of IU's Brearna Crawford, who had the winning time of 2:07.74. Louisville' s Kim Herkle stopped the clock in 2:10.41 and Fernanda Celidonio was 11th with a 2:11.63. All of those were NCAA B-cuts. In the men's 200 breast, IU's Josh Matheny put up a 1:50.31 for the win. UofL's Denis Petrashov was third (1:52.74) and teammate Jake Eccleston was seventh (1:54.60) both were good for B-cuts.

In the 200 butterfly, IU's Ava Whitaker was first to the wall, going 1:56.29 and Louisville' Tristen Ulett was third (1:57.40) and Camden Doane was sixth (1:58.37). Â Freshman Gregg Enoch won the men's 200 fly with a time of 1:41.91 and fellow frosh Thomas Powers-Hammond was third in 1:43.54 with Aidan Paro picking up fourth with a 1:43.56. Denis Loktev touched sixth (1:45.06) and Tommy Bried turned in an eighth-place time of 1:45.31. Mateo Miceli was tenth (1:46.35) to round out the A-final.

In men's platform diving, Rayce Winn was sixth, scoring 315.75 with Ray Preas (305.10) placing tenth and Noam Kulbak (282.25) placing 12th.

In the 400 free relay, the Louisville A-relay of Daria Golovaty (48.64), Julia Dennis (47.91), Gabi Albiero (47.66) and Lucy Mehraban (47.76) put together a 3:11.97 for second place and an A-cut. The men's relay saw the Cardinals touch second when Murilo Sartori (42.98), Guy Brooks (41.89), Matias Santiso (42.24) and Dalton Lowe (42.54) put up an A-cut time of 2:49.65.
