No. 9/6 Cards Come Up Short at No. 3/9 Indiana

The men lost 84-216 and the women fell 138-161
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 9/6-ranked University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost to the No. 3/9-ranked Indiana Hoosiers on Friday afternoon at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center. The men's team fell 84-216, while the women came up short 138-161.
Anastasia Gorbenko dominated once again, winning three individual events in the 100 breast (57.81), 200 breast (2:06.75) and the 400 IM (4:06.52). Gorbenko helped the 200-medley relay team earn victory with a time of 1:33.59. Ray Preas led the men, coming out on top in 3M diving with a score of 383.03
UofL returns home to host Cincinnati tomorrow at Ralph Wright Natatorium with action set to start at 12 p.m. ET for Senior Day.

The Cardinals won the opening relay when Julie Mishler (24.32), Gorbenko (25.98), Ella Welch (22.45) and Julia Dennis (20.84) combined to put up the winning time of 1:33.59 in the 200-medley relay. Indiana won the men's 200-medley relay with a 1:22.63. Louisville's A-relay squad of Charlie Crush (21.27), Grant Gooding (24.25), Aiden Musso (19.63) and Nikita Sheremet (18.47) touched second in 1:23.62.
Louisville's Leticia Fassina Romao won the 1000 free, touching in 9:36.48 with freshman Thilda Häll touching second in 9:40.51. IU's Zalan Sarkany won the men's event in 8:40.40 and Max Hatcher was the top Cardinal, touching fourth in 9:04.73.
In the 200 free, IU's Liberty Clark was into the wall in 1:41.35 for the win with UofL's Summer Cardwell touched third in 1:45.010. IU's Aaron Shackell was first, turning in the time of 1:33.97. UofL's Guy Brooks was right behind, going 1:34.12 for second place.
In the 100 backstroke, IU's Miranda Grana won with a 50.91. UofL's Camille Murray was third as the top Card when she posted a 52.23. Abby Karl was fourth in 54.37. Hoosier Miroslav Knedia won the men's event in 44.78. UofL's Rian Graham touched third in 46.38 and Filip Kosinski was fourth in 46.49.
Gorbenko won the 100 breast, as the only swimmer sub one minute, with a 57.81. Louisville's Anna Inagaki was second in 1:00.69 and Kim Herkle was third at 1:01.20. In the men's 100 breast, Indiana's Alexei Avakov was first, clocking in 51.98. Finnley Conklin was the top Cardinal with a fourth-place time of 52.78. Jake Eccleston was fifth (53.36) an Gooding was sixth (54.36) for the Cards.
In the women's 200 fly, Alex Shackell of IU went 1:54.41 for the win. Welch was fifth, turning in a 1:58.11 as the top Card. In the men's event, Tommy Bried battled Raekwon Noel down the stretch with Noel edging out with a 1:41.14. Bried had a 1:42.36 and Gregg Enoch was third with a 1:44.09.
Dennis set an IU pool record with her win in the 50 free with a 21.46 for the Cardinals. Larsen was fourth (21.97) and Mishler was fifth (22.19). There was a tightly contested 50 free on the men's side won by IU's Mikkel Lee (19.03) who edged UofL freshman Sheremet (19.40) and Crush (19.56).
In diving, IU's Lily Witte posted a score of 350.18 for the win. Audree Brazeau-Howes was third as the top Card when she scored a 310.80 on the 3M. For the men in the 1M, Joshua Sollenberger of IU pulled away from the field with a 366.60 for the win. Mack Malloy was fourth for the Cardinals with a 311.55.
In the 100 free, IU's Liberty Clark won with a time of 46.36, with Dennis into the wall second at 47.78. Lee and Sheremet dueled again with Lee winning in 42.35 just ahead of Sheremet's 42.63.
In the 200 back, Miranda Grana of Indiana won with a tine of 1:50.94 as Xeniya Ignatova of Louisville was into the wall fourth with a time of 1:54.19. For the men, Hoosier Miroslav Knedia was into the wall first in 1:40.88 with Louisville's Kosinski (1:41.61) and Jackson Millard (1:41.93) were second and third.

UofL had the top two spots in the women's 500 free as Daria Golovaty turned in a 4:43.97 for the win. Häll was second (4:45.15) and Fassina Romao was fourth (4:46.65). Zalan Sarkany completed the distance sweep with a win in the 500, going 4:16.79. Enoch was fourth with a time of 4:24.67.
In the women's 100 fly, IU's Alex Shackell made it a fly sweep with a 51.08 win. UofL's Welch was third (51.91) and Larsen was fourth in 52.35. In the men's event, Raekwon Noel was first with a time of 45.78. UofL's Musso was second (45.84) and Graham was fourth in 46.13.
In women's 1M diving, Brazeau-Howes led the Cardinals with a score of 277.73. Samantha Keith took sixth (236.03) and Maud Van Kempen placed seventh (233.78). Preas topped the men's 3M diving, posting a score of 383.03. Rayce Winn (326.63 finished sixth, Molloy (308.63) at seventh, and Colin Kruer (260.93) at eighth.
