No. 9/6 Cardinals Finish Competition at Texas Showdown

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 9/6 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams close out competition at the Texas Showdown on Saturday morning at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center. The Cardinal women earned first place with 488 points, outscoring No. 2 Texas (487) by one point and dominating No. 14 Ohio State (227). The UofL men came in second scoring 459 points, behind only No. 1 Texas' 540, but well ahead of No. 16 Ohio State's 159.
Louisville will return to action on the road in Bloomington, Ind. to take on the No. 3/9 Indiana University. Competition is set to start at 2 p.m. ET at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center.

The Cards started Saturday morning's session with the 200 back, where Xeniya Ignatova led the women with a third-place finish, posting a 1:55.37. Camille Murray (1:57.12) came in fifth, Summer Cardwell (1:58.33) at seventh, and Sadie Murphy (1:58.60) rounded out UofL in eighth. Filip Kosinski topped the men in third, clocking a 1:41.25. Jackson Millard (1:43.33) followed in fourth and Nate Thomas (1:43.70) in fifth. Guy Brooks closed it out in seventh, turning in a 1:45.23.
Louisville swept the top three in the women's 200 breast, starting with Anastasia Gorbenko's first place showing of 2:07.45. Mia Cheatwood (2:09.53) took second and Kim Herkle (2:09.58) finished third. Anna Inagaki wrapped up in seventh, notching a 2:17.35. Finnley Conklin paced the men at second, posting a 1:55.77. Jake Eccleston (1:56.20) placed fourth, Tommy Bried (1:58.02) earned sixth, and Grant Gooding (2:02.58) claimed eighth.
Three of the top four women's 50 free finishers wore a UofL uniform, with Julia Dennis on top in first place with a 21.55. Caroline Larsen (22.02) secured third and Julie Mishler (22.27) grabbed fourth. Abby Karl (22.92) notched eighth. Nikita Sheremet came in second for the men with a 19.11 showing. Charlie Crush wasn't far behind taking third with a 19.55, while Ethan Chauliaguet (20.02) finished sixth.
Kaitlyn Sallows led the women in the 200 fly, placing third with a 2:00.27. Cardwell (2:01.61) followed in fourth and Daria Golovaty (2:01.96) right behind in fifth. Four Cardinal men finished consecutively, starting with Gregg Enoch (1:43.38) in third, Bried (1:43.94) in fourth, Rian Graham (1:45.85) in fifth, and Thomas Powers-Hammond (1:45.86) in sixth.

Larsen wasn't far behind, earning second clocking a 53.70. Cheatwood posted a third-place finish turning in a 54.88, and Ella Welch rounded out in fourth posting a 54.92. Crush secured fourth on the men's side with a 47.89. Aidan Paro (48.90) claimed sixth, Millard (49.74) seventh, and Nate Thomas eighth (50.97).
In the 1650 free, Leticia Fassina Romao notched third for the women with a 15:56.88, while Thilda Hall turned in a fourth-place time of 15:56.88. Kayden Lancaster paced the men in third with a 15:22.86, while Oscar Isberg came in fourth with a 15:33.77.
For men's 1-meter diving, Ray Preas (325.20) took second, Rayce Winn (320.48) finished third, and Mack Molloy (314.55) placed fifth.
