No. 12/7 Louisville Stays Hot Against No. 25/NR Notre Dame

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 12/7 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team swept No. 25/NR Notre Dame Friday evening at Ralph Wright Natatorium. Both the men's and the women's team came out on top 213-84.
The Cardinal women stayed hot coming off a big win last night. Senior sprinter Julia Dennis won all four of her events (50 free, 100 free, 200-medley relay, 400 free relay). Freshman Julie Mishler finished top two in all her events, coming out on top in the 200-medley relay, 100 back, and 400 free relay. Senior sprinter Ella Welch placed top three in all her events, including victories in the 100 fly, 200-medley relay, and 400 free relay.
For the UofL men, senior Guy Brooks won all his events (200 free, 100 free, and 400 free relay). Freshman Oscar Isberg earned a top three finish in all his events, including wins in the 1000 free and 500 free. Jake Eccleston claimed the victory in the 100 breast and 200 breast.
Louisville heads to Columbus, Ohio to compete at the Ohio State Invite on Nov. 18-21

The Cardinals began the meet on a positive note with a sweep of the women's 200 medley relay when Julie Mishler (24.12), Caroline Larsen (26.68), Ella Welch (22.62) and Julia Dennis (20.98) put up a 1:34.30. The Cardinals touched second as the B-relay team of Camille Murray, Anna Inagaki, Sophia Rodriguez, and Karoline Barrett combined for a time of 1:38.25. The men followed suit, taking the top two spots in the 200-medley relay, led by the foursome of Jackson Millard (21.22), Finnley Conklin (23.73), Aiden Musso (19.97) and Nikita Sheremet (18.86) boarded a 1:23.78. Rian Graham, Grant Gooding, Aidan Paro and Charlie Crush touched in 1:24.13 on the B-relay.
Leticia Fassina Romao put up a 9:35.15 for the win, 23 seconds ahead of the rest of the field in the 1000 freestyle. Summer Cardwell was second with a 9:58.79. For the men, freshman Oscar Isberg was first into the wall with a time of 8:57.68 and fellow frosh Max Hatcher was third in 9:08.93.
In the 200 freestyle, Louisville's Daria Golovaty led the Cardinal sweep with a time of 1:44.48 followed by Caroline Larsen (1:45.32) and Maya Bezanson (1:47.48). Guy Brooks had a pool record time of 1:32.22 for the win in the 200, breaking the pool record of Joao De Lucca, an All-American from UofL who is now a member of the Notre Dame coaching staff. Matias Santiso was second (1:35.57) and Gregg Enoch was third in 1:36.30.
In the women's 100 backstroke, Julie Mishler was into the wall first with a time of 52.65 and teammate Xeniya Ignatova was third in 53.99. In the men's 100 back, ND's Marcus Reyes-Gentry won with a time of 46.34 with UofL's Filip Kosinski in hot pursuit, touching in 46.37. Jackson Millard was third with a 46.49.
Mia Cheatwood won the 100 breaststroke, with the only sub-one minute time of 59.14. Anna Inagaki was second with a 1:00.36. Jake Eccleston won the men's 100 breast, going 52.95, leading the Louisville sweep, followed by Finnley Conklin (53.30) and Grant Gooding (54.04).
Notre Dame's Carli Cronk won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:55.70. Ella Welch was the top Cardinal, touching with the third-place time of 1:57.95. UofL captain Tommy Bried won the 200 fly with a time of 1:44.20 just out-touching teammate Aidan Paro's 1:44.54.
Julia Dennis threw down a 21.47 to win the 50 freestyle with Karoline Barrett touching third (23.01). Nikita Sheremet won the men's 50 freestyle with a 19.28 with Charlie Crush's (19.57) and Charlie Crush was third in 19.57.
In platform diving, UofL's Audree Brazeau-Howes won with a mark of 265.73 with teammate Samm Helmboldt posting the third-place score of 245.48. Cardinal Ray Preas took top honors in the men's platform, scoring 339.14. In 1M diving, Samm Helmboldt had the top score of 296.70 for the win. Notre Dame's Daniel Knapp put up the winning mark of 351.83 with UofL's Mack Molloy putting up the third-place finish mark of 333.90.
Julia Dennis won the 100 free going away with a 47.66 with Cardinal freshman in her wake with a 49.08. In the 100 free, Guy Brooks was into the wall in 42.29 for the100 free win, Matias Santiso was second with a time of 43.55. Nikita Sheremet was fourth with a time of 43.63.
Camille Murray took the win in the 200 backstroke, stopping the clock in 1:56.39 with Sadie Murphy boarding the third-place time of 1:58.33. On the men's side, Cardinal Filip Kosinski left the field in his wake with a time of 1:40.68, almost four seconds ahead of the field.
Mia Cheatwood won the 200 breaststroke with a 2:09.06 to lead the Cardinal sweep just ahead of Kim Herkle's 2:10.27 and Anna Inagaki's 2:11.05. Jake Eccleston was first into the wall with a time of 1:53.66. Finnley Conklin was second (1:58.32) and Tommy Bried was third (in 1:58.60).
Daria Golovaty won the 500 freestyle in 4:43.65 just ahead of teammate Maya Bezanson's 4:45.54. Oscar Isberg took top honors in the men's event wth a time of 4:20.01 to sweep the distance events. Kayden Lancaster was third with a time of 4:27.70.
Ella Welch won the 100 butterfly with a 52.02 with Karoline Barrett putting up the third-place time of 53.58. Aidan Paro's 46.24 was good for the win in the men's 100 fly. He edged Rian Graham was second in 46.45 and Aiden Musso touched third in a time 47.18.
In the 400 IM, Kim Herkle put up the winning time of 4:11.13 for UofL, with Maya Bezanson touching third (4:13.16). For the men, Jackson Millard turned in the winning time of 3:45.25. Tommy Bried was third, going 3:48.52 and Gregg Enoch was fourth (3:51.64).
In the 400 free relay the foursome of Caroline Larsen (47.52), Julia Dennis (47.34), Julie Mishler (48.09) and Ella Welch (48.19) combined forces to post a 3:11.14. For the men, Nikita Sheremet (42.93), Guy Brooks (41.81), Matias Santiso (43.06) and Rian Graham (42.82) boarded a 2:50.62, five seconds ahead of runner-up Notre Dame.
