2024-25: Mateo qualified for the ACC Championships in Greensboro where he finished 12th in the 200 fly (1:42.55) and was 21st in the 200 back (1:42.41) and 27th in the 100 fly (46.31). During the dual meet season, he had a first in the 100 fly against Xavier (48.49) and won the 100 back against Tennessee (46.86) where he also touched third in the 100 fly (46.36). In the meet with Purdue, he was second in the 200 fly (1:45.66) and third in the 100 fly (47.04). At the Ohio State Invitational, he was fifth in the 200 fly (1:44.48). At Missouri, he was fifth in three events: the 100 fly (47.78), 100 back (49.19) and the 200 back (1:49.53). Against Kentucky he was fourth in the 100 fly (48.42) and was seventh in the 100 back (48.43) against Indiana.
2023-24: Mateo qualified for the Olympic trials in the 100M back and the 100M butterfly. During the dual meet season, he competed at the SMU Classic, helping the Cards win the 400 medley relay (3:07.76) and was fourth in the 100 fly (47.48). In the Notre Dame meet, he was sixth in the 200 fly (1:49.72) and seventh in the 100 fly (49.29). Versus Missouri, he was fifth in both the 200 fly (1:49.92) and the 100 fly (49.50) and was on the fourth-place 200 medley relay (1:28.80). Against Kentucky, he placed third in the 100 fly (47.47) and was on the second place 200 medley relay team (1:26.65). In the double dual meet with Wisconsin and Indiana, he was sixth in the 200 fly 1:46.00) and ninth in the 100 fly (47.94). He was fourth in the 100 back (49.25) and fifth in the 200 back (1:51.04).
2022-23: (At Alabama) Mateo earned second team All-America honors at the NCAA Championships as a member of the 200 medley relay (11th) and competed in the 100 (38th) and 200 butterfly (37th) at the NCAA Championships. He placed fifth in the 200 butterfly (1:42.02) at the SEC Championships, setting a new school record. He also competed in the 100 butterfly (10th) at the SEC Championships, posting a career-best time, which ranks him third all-time in Alabama history. He swam the 200 backstroke at the SEC Championships, earning a 36th-place finish.
Prep: Mateo competed for Jamie Bowcott at Millard West and competed for JB Barr at Inspire Swim Team. He is a USA Swimming Olympic Trials qualifier and USA Swimming Junior National Championships competitor in the 100 and 200 backstrokes and 100 butterfly. He won the 100 butterfly (47.01) and the 200 butterfly (1:44.86) at the 2020 Missouri Winter Championships and set a U.S. National Age Group Relay Record.
