Cardinals Win More Hardware, Adding Five More Medals at ACC Championships

Wednesday saw records fall as the men move to third and the women are in fourth
ATLANTA -- After the first full day of racing, the University of Louisville won five medals with the men's team sitting in third and the women in fourth at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.

The Cardinals' 200 free relay team put up the third fastest time in school history on the way to winning bronze with a time of 1:25.34 put up by Caroline Larsen (21.75), Julia Dennis (20.79), Julie Mishler (21.33) and Ella Welch (21.47). The event was won by Virginia's A-relay with a time of 1:23.75 which set a pool record.Â

The Cardinals won bronze in the men's 200 free relay with a time of 1:14.91, breaking a school record. Nikita Sheremet led off with a split of 18.91, which ranks him second in Louisville's record book. Charlie Crush split 18.70, followed by Aiden Musso's 18.52 and an anchor of 18.78 by Rian Graham. The event was won by the Wolfpack who set a meet, conference and pool record of 1:14.02.

In the 500 freestyle, freshman Thilda Hall was seventh in the A-final, touching in 4:39.31. Daria Golovaty joined her in the championship heat and touched eighth with a time of 4:39.91. In the B-final, Leticia Romao was fourth with a time of 4:42.68. The event was won by Virginia's Katie Grimes, an Olympian who defended her title from a year ago with a time of 4:33.78 and led a 1-2-3-4 Wahoo sweep.Â

In the men's 500 freestyle, freshman Oscar Isberg finished seventh with a time of 4:21.64 in the championship heat that featured seven freshmen.   In the B-final, Gregg Enoch touched seventh with a time of 4:19.61. The event was won by NC State freshman Max Carlsen, who won going away with a 4:09.44.Â

In the 200 Individual Medley, Louisville's Anastasia Gorbenko won silver with a time of 1:51.30, shaving 2.69 off her preliminary time and finishing just .03 behind Olympic gold medalist Torri Huske, who put up the fastest time in the nation this year. In the B-final, Kim Herkle touched seventh with a time of 1:57.21.Â

In the men's 200, Louisville's Jackson Millard was fifth in the A-final with a time of 1:42.33.     In the C-final, Aidan Paro used a late surge to touch fourth with a time of 1:44.67. The event was won by NC State's Arsenio Bustos, who boarded a 1:40.39, dropping 1.75 from his prelim time for the gold.Â

In the 50-free, Julia Dennis won a silver medal with a time of 21.21.  Joining Dennis in the A-final was Caroline Larsen, who touched sixth with a time of 21.62. In the B-final, Julie Mishler touched second with a time of 21.76 and Ella Welch was sixth, clocking in at 22.02. The event was won by Sara Curtis, a freshman from Virginia who clocked in at 21.09.Â

In the men's 50-free, Louisville freshman Nikita Sheremet set a school record with an 18.71 and win silver. UofL's Charlie Crush was second in the B-final, stopping the clock in 19.01. In the C-final, Aiden Musso was second with a 19.26. The event was won by NC State's Quinton McCarthy, who went 18.63 for gold.Â

On the men's side, California sits atop of the 15 team field with 459 points. Stanford is second (442) followed by Louisville (355) with the Cards tying NC State (355). Next was Virginia Tech (289.5), Florida State (266), Notre Dame (263), SMU (242), North Carolina (239), Georgia Tech (215), Virginia (201.5), Pitt (185), Miami (162), Boston College (86), and Duke (68).Â
