
Cardinals Win Gold and Bronze On Day 1 of Swimming at ACC Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --Â Bolstered by a gold and bronze medal and a platform finalist, the University of Louisville sits in second place on the women's side and third on the men's after Tuesday night's competition at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.Â

The University of Louisville won gold on the first night of swimming competition when the women's 200 medley relay team smashed the school record. The men picked up a bronze in the 200 Medley Relay. The men received points from two divers with Ray Preas finalling on the platform.Â

In the gold medal relay, Julie Mishler led off on the backstroke leg and was fifth into the wall with a split of 23.73. She handed over the lane to Anastasia Gorbenko who turned in a split of 25.49 putting Caroline Larsen in the water for the fly leg in second place with a split of 22.41. Julia Dennis anchored the Cards, hitting the wall with a 20.63 split for the 1:32.26, holding off Virginia down the stretch and winning by a margin of .20. The Cards broke their record of 1:33.41 set at last year's NCAA Championship by Abby Karl, Caroline Larsen, Gabi Albiero, and Julia Dennis.Â

The Cardinal men won bronze in the men's 200 medley relay with a time of 1:22.40 posted by Charlie Crush (21.00), Finnley Conklin (23.53), Aiden Musso (19.42) and a blazing anchor of 18.45 by Nikita Sheremet.  Florida State won the event with a time of 1:22.28 in a tightly contested final that saw just the difference of .45 of a second difference between first and fifth place.Â

In the 800 free relay, the UofL women placed fourth with a time of 6:54.74, the second fastest time in school history. Daria Golovaty led off with a split of 1:43.73 and handed off fifth place to Anastasia Gorbenko, who split 1:41.61 to put the Cards in third. Next in the water was Summer Cardwell, who turned in a 1:44.43 split and held onto third. Xeniya Ignatova was the anchor and she went 1:44.97 to touch fourth. The gold went to Virginia, with the Wahoos pulling away with the winning time of 6:45.34.Â

In the men's 800 free relay, Guy Brooks led off with a split of 1:31.91 to touch third in the first leg. Oscar Isberg took over and went 1:33.23 and turned over fourth to Matias Santiso, who boarded a split of 1:34.02 to hold on to fourth. Gregg Enoch anchored with a split of 1:33.54 as the Cards turned in a 6:12.70.  Stanford won the event with a time of 6:07.40, the fastest time in the nation. NC State was second, just .02 slower for the second fastest time in the nation.Â

Platform diver Ray Preas placed sixth in the finals with a score of 343.05.   The event was won by Misha Andriyuk of Stanford. Â

The  UofL men scored 205 points trailing only Stanford (244) and Cal (218) followed by FSU (202), SMU (186), Georgia Tech (177), Virginia Tech (163), Miami (162), Notre Dame (147), North Carolina (137), Pitt (136), Pitt (135), Duke (68), Boston (58), NC State (56), and Virginia (52).  Â

The UofL women are third with 166 points as Stanford (178) took the lead followed by Cal (170), Louisville (166), SMU (164), Virginia Tech (151), FSU (148),  Notre Dame (147) Georgia Tech (143), Miami (139), Pitt (118) North Carolina (96) , Duke (62), Boston College (58), NC State (56), Virginia (52).Â
