No. 11/10 Cardinals Sweep 22/NR Wildcats in Battle of the Bluegrass

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The No. 11/10 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team swept rival  22/NR Kentucky Saturday afternoon in Lexington. The Cardinal men won 192-108 and the women prevailed 206-94.

The Cardinals were powered by multiple event winners led by Guy Brooks (200 medley relay, 200 free, 100 free, 400 free relay) and Dalton Lowe (200 medley relay, 50 free, 100 fly, 400 free relay) for the men. For the women, Julia Dennis won the 50 free, the 100 free and the 400 free relay with teammate Daria Golovaty winning the 200 and 500 freestyles. Tristen Ulett won the 200 fly and the 200 IM with Gabi Albiero scoring victories in the 100 fly and the 400 free relay.

The Cardinals began the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay when Camille Murray (25.08), Ella Welch (27.30), Karoline Barrett (23.12) and Lucy Mehraban (21.84) combined to put up a time of 1:37.34, The Louisville men took the top two spots in the 200 medley relay with the A-relay team of Dalton Lowe (20.98), Denis Petrashov (23.61), Aiden Musso (20.58) and Guy Brooks (19.10) went 1:24.27 for the win. The foursome of Charlie Crush (21.63), Luke Shourds (24.39), Aidan Paro (20.83) and Matias Santiso (19.64) were second into the wall with a time of 1:26.48.

In the 1000 free, Cardinal Leticia Fassina Romao left the field in her wake, posting a 9:40.32, eight seconds faster than the rest of the field. UofL's Merve Tuncel was third in 9:54.14. Eli Shoyat was third in the men's 1000 free as the top UofL competitor with a time of 9:05.75. The event was won by Carson Hick of UK, who went 8.45.73.

The Cardinals went 1-2-3 in the women's 200 free led by winner Daria Golovaty's 1:45.45 followed by Summer Cardwell (1:46.55) and Amelia Bodenstab (1:46.82). The Cardinal men went 1-2-3-4 in the event led by Guy Brooks' 1:34.13. Denis Loktev was second (1:34.65), Matias Santiso was third (1:36.25) and Murilo Sartori was fourth, going 1:36.37.

In the 100 backstroke, Cardinal Camille Murray touched second with a time of 53.22 just off the winning time of UK's Grace Frericks. UofL's Filip Kosinski beat the field by a second with a 46.96. Jackson Millard was third (47.59) and Charlie Crush was fourth (48.02) just out-touching Drew Collins' time o 48.45.

UK's Bridget Engel won the 100 breast in 59.83 as the only sub-minute finisher. UofL's Mia Cheatwood was second in 1:00.17, Fernanda Celidonio was third (1:00.25) and Ella Welch was fourth in 1:00.36. Â Denis Petrashov won the men's 100 breast with a time of 52.70 for the Cardinals. Teammate Jake Eccleston was third (53.79) and Luke Shourds was fourth with a time of 54.25.

Tristen Ulett won the 200 fly for Louisville, posting a 1:56.27. Teammate Camden Doane was second with a 1:57.62 and Madie Hall was third (1:59.65). The Cards captured spots two through five led by Tommy Bried who was second in the 200 fly for the Cardinal men with a 1:43.30 just ahead of Gustavo Saldo (1:43.84), Aidan Paro (1:44.58) and Gregg Enoch (1:45.86).

The Cardinal women swept the top four spots in the 50 free led by Julia Dennis' 21.90. Gabi Albiero was second in 22.25 followed by Caroline Larsen (22.32) and Abby Karl (22.60). Cardinal captain Dalton Lowe posted the winning time in the men's event with a 19.49, the only competitor under 20 seconds. Fellow Card Aiden Musso was third with a 20.17 and Rian Graham was right there for fourth with a 20.19.

In men's 1-meter diving, UK's Sam Duncan took top honors, posting a score of 359.40. Ray Preas was second as the Cardinals' top finisher, boarding a mark of 329.48. Mack Molloy was fourth (311.10). Â In women's 3-meter diving, UK's Kristy Pfaff won with a score of 319.35. Samm Helmboldt was third as the top Cardinal finisher with a 308.78. Lindsay Gizzi won the 1-meter springboard for the Cardinals with a 299.33. Che Stephens won the 3-meter springboard with a score of 351.38.

Julia Dennis won the 100 freestyle for the Cardinal women with a time of 48.48 just out-touching runner-up Caroline Larsen, who touched in 48.75. Lucy Mehraban was third in 49.00. Guy Brooks got his third win of the day with a victory in the men's 100 free, posting a a time of 42.99. Matias Santiso was second in 43.74 and Murilo Sartori was fourth, going 45.03.

Rye Ulett won the 200 back for the Cardinals, stopping the clock 1:55.39. Camille Murray was fourth for the Ville with a 1:57.61. Filip Kosinski grabbed his second individual win with a 1:41.96 in the men's 200 back. Jackson Millard was second for UofL, going 1:43.71.

Kim Herkle won the 200 breast for the Cardinals in 2:10.86, leading a 1-2-4 charge. Fernanda Celidonio was second in 2:11.07 and Mia Cheatwood was fourth in 2:11.97 in a tightly contested finish. Denis Petrashov made it a breaststroke sweep with the fastest time in the event with a 1:55.71. Jake Eccleston was second for the Cards with a 1:56.45 and Tommy Bried was fourth with a time of 1:59.49.

 In the women's 500 freestyle, Daria Golovaty just edged teammate Summer Cardwell with Daria posting a 4:45.05 for the win and Summer boarding a 4:45.44. On the men's side, UK's Levi Sandidge put up the winning time of 4:16.79. Eli Shoyat was third as the top Cardinal after boarding a 4:23.65. Denis Loktev was fourth (4:25.88) and Gregg Enoch was .01 behind him at 4:25.89. Gustavo Saldo was sixth in 4:26.22.

The Louisville B-relay team of Ella Welch (49.42), Daria Golovaty (49.56), Tristen Ulett (50.07) and Fernanda Celdonio (50.07) combined forces for a time of 3:19.12. The Louisville men left the field in their wake with the winning time of 2:52.51 put up by Guy Brooks (43.51), Dalton Lowe (42.68), Matias Santiso (42.75) and Murilo Sartori (43.57). Â The Louisville B-relay team put up the third place time of 2:57.33 posted by Denis Loktev (44.17), Aiden Musso (44.60), Rian Graham (43.84) and Owen Taylor (44.72)
