
Cards Win Two Medals on Day 3 at ACC Championships

Women are in third and the men are in fifth
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After three days of competition at the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, the University of Louisville women are in third place and the men are in fifth place.

The Louisville women (575) trail only Virginia (744.5) and Stanford (684). The men have scored 449.5 points and trail Cal (633.5), Stanford (565), North Carolina (517) and NC State (501). The Cardinals won their first gold of the meet when Tommy Bried pulled away from the field to win the 400 Individual Medley and Guy Brooks won bronze in the 200 freestyle.

In the women's 400 Individual Medley, Kim Herkle finished third in the consolation final with a third place time of 4:09.26, shaving almost two seconds off her preliminary time. The event was won by Virginia's Kathryn Grimes, who 3: 59.69, just missing a meet record by .36 of a second.

Tommy Bried won gold, holding his top seed for the win with a 3:39.28 and the gold medal. Bried held off last year's champ NC State's Kyle Ponsleer, making his move on the final 50 of the breaststroke, and held on to the lead on the final leg in freestyle. The time is a Louisville school record for Bried, who is just the second Card to win this event. Daniel Sos being the other to win an ACC gold. Freshman Gregg Enoch went 3:41.57 for fifth and Jackson Millard turned in a 3:46.77 for eighth.

In the 100 fly,  Ella Welch turned in a personal best time of 50.74 to finish fifth overall in the championship final. Gabi Albiero won the consolation final with a time of 51.18. Fellow fifth year Tristen Ulett was in the same heat and touched sixth with a time of 52.01. Karoline Barrett clocked in a 52.43 to score in the C-final. Stanford's Torri Huske won gold with a time of 48.52.

In the men's 100 fly, Dalton Lowe finished fifth in the B-final posting a 45.69. In the C-final, Rian Graham went a lifetime best 45.53. Thomas Powers-Hammond was second in the same heat with a time of 45.68. Aidan Paro stopped the clock at 46.17. The event was won by Stanford's Andrei Minakov, who won gold with a time of 44.27.

In the 200 freestyle. Virginia's Aime Canny threw down a 1:42.00 for gold in the championship final. In the same race, Daria Golovaty was seventh with a time of 1:44.34 and Summer Cardwell was eighth in 1:44.59.

In the men's 200 freestyle, UofL's Guy Brooks  won bronze, putting up a 1:32.04 to tie with Lucas Henveaux of Cal.  In the consolation final, Murilo Sartori was sixth after clocking in at 1:33.77. Denis Loktev was in the same race and was eighth after boarding a 1:34.20. Mateo Santiso was into the wall sixth with a time of 1:34.88 and Gustavo Saldo was eighth, going 1:35.52 in the bonus final.
