Cardinals Stand in Third After Day 2 Finals at Ohio State Fall Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Louisville swimming team has completed finals on Day 2 and both squads sit at third at the Ohio State Fall Invitational at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The Louisville men have amassed a score of 1354.5 and trail only Indiana (1903) and Ohio State (1655). Notre Dame is fourth (1222.5) followed by Cincinnati (808), Pitt (238) and Cal 131. The Louisville women have posted a score of 1421 and trail leader Ohio State (1830), Indiana (1693.5). Notre Dame is fourth with 966, followed by Cincinnati (866.5), Ohio Univeristy (199), Pitt (197) and Cal (116).
The No. 12/3-ranked Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams are racing the nationally ranked Buckeyes. Other schools in attendance will be Indiana, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Ohio University (Diving Only), Cal (Diving Only), and Kenyon (Diving Only).
The meet will be contested over three days with action getting started at 9:30am. Prelims will be conducted in the morning in meters and finals will follow at 5:30 ET in yards.

Louisville took second in the women's 200 Medley Relay when Abby Hay (24.47), Ella Welch (26.84), Christiana Regenauer (22.74) and Gabi Albiero (21.34) combined forces to post a time of 1:35.39. The B-relay team of Ally Boynton (25.72), Cecilia Viberg (27.08), Karoline Barrett (23.36) and Julia Dennis (21.58) turned in a fifth place time of 1:37.74.

The Louisville men's 200 Medley B Relay took fifth with a 1:26.48 boarded by Kasper Johnsen (21.71), Luke Shourds (23.88), Mateo Miceli (21.49) and Vlad Dubinin (19.40). The C-relay team was tied for sixth with Drew Collins (22.08), Grant Gooding (24.15), Aidan Paro (21.03) and Caleb Duncan 19.39 combined forces to post a time of 1:26.65. The event was won by Indiana, with the Hoosiers putting together a time of 1:23.84.

Gabi Albiero won the 100 fly for the Cardinals with a time of 50.83, almost a full second ahead of the field.  UofL's Christiana Regenauer was third with a 52.11. Karoline Barrett was 12th turning in a time of 53.64. Tristen Ulett touched in 54.59 to finish 15th.

In the men's 100 fly, IU's Tomer Frankel won with a time of 45.26. UofL's Dalton Lowe was the top finisher for the Ville with a fifth place time of 46.35 with teammate Mateo Miceli touching 7th with a 47.39 and Aidan Paro was 11th, boarding a time of 47.29.

Abby Hay won the 400 IM with a time of 4:09.42, just .4 of a second ahead of Ohio State. Emily Herkle was 8th with a time of 4:14.59 and Paige Kuwata was 11th with a time of 4:17.37 just ahead of Cardinal teammate Rye Ulett's 4:17.93. Jordan Durocher put up a 4:19.19 and Zoe Vogelmann went 4:25.46.

Ohio State's Tristan Jankovics won the men's 400 IM with a time of 3:40.89. For the Ville, Jackson Millard was third with a time of 3:44.76 and Tommy Bried was fifth with a mark of 3:47.44. Tyler Watson was seventh (3:48.35).

Anna Peplowski of IU won the 200 free going away, posting a 1:42.97. Louisville's Paige Hetrick was fifth with a time of 1:46.36 followed by Fernanda Celidonio's sixth place time of 1:47.00. Summer Cardwell was ninth for UofL with a 1:47.84 and Lucy Mehraban was 10th in 1:48.11. Julia Dennis clocked in at 1:47.30 for 12th and Madie Hall went 1:48.50 and Maddie Luther went 1:48.75.

Notre Dame's Chris Guiliani won the men's 200 freestyle with a time of 1:32.14. Louisville's Murilo Sartori was fourth with a 1:33.67 and Ilia Sibirtsev was sixth with a 1:35.88, just ahead of seventh place Kayden Lancaster's 1:35.13 and Denis Loktev's 1:37.26. Louisville's Guy Brooks touched 11th with a 1:34.99 and Matias Santiso was 18th with a 1:38.34. Or Tal was 20th with a 1:40.01.

Ohio State's Hannah Bach won the 100 breast handily with a time of 57.78. Louisville's Cecilia Viberg was fourth with a time of 59.66 and Ella Welch was fifth (59.89). Kim Herkle was ninth, going 1:02.06.

In the men's 100 breast, Indiana's Jassen Yep turned in the winning time of 51.49. Denis Petrashov was the top Cardinal, touching fourth with a 52.49. Luke Shourds was fourth (53.17) and Aidan Kreiley was eighth with a time of 54.25. Grant Gooding went 53.61 and Rob Ehrenbord put up a 57.90.

Hoosiers Kacey McKenna and Mya DeWitt tied for first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.47. Ally Boynton was the first Cardinal into the wall with an eighth place time of 54.19. Abby Karl had a 56.74 for 19th.

Brendan Burns from Indiana won the men's 100 backstroke with a time of 45.29. Louisville's Jackson Millard was eighth with a time of 47.75, Dalton Lowe was 11th with a 46.53 just ahead of 12th place Charlie Crush's 46.86. Drew Collins turned in a 48.50 for 18th and Yassin Hossam turned in a 47.30 with Mateo Miceli going 48.69.

In the 800 free relay, Indiana took top honors with the time of 7:01.08. The Louisville B-relay was fourth with a time of 7:11.50 posted by Madie Hall (1:48.91), Tristen Ulett (1:47.03), Lucy Mehraban (1:47.74) and Maddie Luther (1:47.82). The A-Relay team touched fifth with a time of 7:14.38 turned in by Paige Hetrick (1:50.53), Fernanda Celidonio (1:46.93), Summer Cardwell (1:48.71) and Julia Dennis (1:48.21).
