Bio
2024-25: Tommy Bried continued to be a strong contributor in various swimming events, particularly the 400 IM and 200 butterfly. He notably had a breakthrough season, dropping under the 3:40 barrier in the yards 400 IM to win the ACC Championships with a time of 3:39.28. At the 2025 Toyota National Championships held from June 3-7 in Indiana, Bried competed in the Men's 200m Butterfly final, with a time of 1:57.26. He also participated in the Men's 400 IM final at the 2025 U.S. Nationals, where he finished 6th with a time of 4:15.72. In the dual meet season versus Indiana, Bried secured two wins, taking first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:42.08 and also winning the 400 IM with a time of 3:42.65. He also finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:56.61. Against Missouri, he won the 400 IM with a season-best time of 3:43.93. He also placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:57.13 and second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:43.18. In the meet with rival Kentucky. Bried finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:59.49 and third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:43.30. At the Ohio State Invitational, Bried continued his strong IM performances, placing third in the 400 IM with a time of 3:44.26. He also finished eighth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:44.57. At the ACC Championships, he became an ACC champion, winning the 400 IM with a personal best and Louisville school record of 3:39.28.He also won the B-final in the 200 fly with a 1:41.93 and was in the A-final of the 200 breast, where he went 1:53.65 to finish eighth. At the NCAA Championships in Federal Way, Washington, he was 12th in the 400 IM, winning HM All-American honors with a time of 3:39.66. He was 20th in the 200 fly with a time of 1:41.29.
2023-24: Tommy qualified for the Olympic Trials and was fifth in the 400M IM (4:15.14) in the finals. He made the semifinals of the 200 fly and finished 10th with a 1:57.59. he made the semifinals of the 200 breast where he finished 16th with a time of 2:13.47. At the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Tommy finished 19th in the 400 IM with a time of 3:42.72 and was 28th in the 200 fly with a time of 1:42.66, shaving .37 off his entry time. At the ACC Championships, Tommy scored 54 points for the Cardinals. He was sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 3:45.56. He was 12th in the 200 fly, going 1:44.49 and was 12th in the 200 breast with a time of 1:55.48. During the dual meet season, he began the season with Xavier where he was fourth in the 200 breast and fifth in the 200 fly. At the prestigious SMU Classic, he was ninth in both the 200 IM (1:50.14) and the 400 IM (3:51.90). He was 12th in the 100 breast (56.96) and 11th in the 200 breast (2:01.27). In the meet with Notre Dame, he was third in the 200 fly (1:47.84) and sixth in the 200 breast and seventh in the 200 IM. Against Missouri, he won the 400 IM with a time of 3:46.56 and was third in the 200 fly (1:44.34) and was on the fourth place 400 free relay. Swimming against the rival Kentucky Wildcats, Tommy was second in the 200 breast (1:57.75) and third in the 200 fly (1:44.21) and sixth in the 200 IM. In the double dual meet with Indiana and Wisconsin, Tommy touched second in the 400 IM (3:46.49) and was fourth in the 200 fly and sixth in the 200 breaststroke. In the final dual meet of the season, he won both the 200 fly (1:43.89) and 400 IM (3:45.99).
2022-23: Tommy Bried had a breakout season for the Cardinals in 2022-23. He qualified for the NCAAs, where he finished 31st in the 400 IM (3:46.00) and was 34th in the 200 fly. He scored 47 points at the ACC Championships. He was 22nd in the 500 freestyle. He placed sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 3:44.84. He won the B-final of the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:43.71, putting him in the top ten all time swims in that distance for the Cardinals. In the dual season, he was second in the 200 fly versus Xavier. He was fifth in the 200 fly, the 500 free and the 200 IM versus Tennessee. At Notre Dame, he was fourth in the 200 fly and sixth in the 200 IM. At the Purdue Invitational, he was eighth in the 400 IM and 21st in the 500 freestyle. He was second in the 200 fly at both Missouri and Indiana and third at Kentucky. Against UK, he was third in the 200 breast and fourth in the 200 IM. Against Cincinnati, he was second in both the 200 fly and the 400 IM.
2021-22: Tommy swam the 200M butterfly at the Phillips 66 National Championships, finishing 24th with a time of 2:02.12 in the finals. A star student, Tommy was named to the ACC Academic Honor and the University of Louisville AD Honor Roll.
Prep: Tommy came to Louisville from Powder Springs, GA, where he swam for Ace Aquatics Club and Coach Ryan Bried. He qualified for Olympic Trials in 2021 in the 200m fly with three additional U.S. Open standards. He raced to fifth place in the 200 fly at Juniors East in December after finishing 18th in that event at the U.S. Open. He won the 200m fly at the Georgia Open before going on to achieve nine best times at Greensboro Sectionals.. Bried, who does his club swimming with Ace Aquatic Club, also competing for Hillgrove High School, Bried is a three-time Georgia 6A State Championship finalist. He placed fourth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 fly as a junior while taking 19th in the 200 IM during his freshman season. He holds the county record in the 100 fly and the 500 freestyle.
