2024-25: Abby Karl had an outstanding senior campaign for the Cards. She was a member of the NCAA team for the relay. At the ACC Championships, she made the C-final in the 50 free (22.30) to finish 18th. She helped the Cards win bronze in the 200 medley relay with a backstroke split of 24.26 as UofL turned in a 1:34.55. She was on the 400 medley relay team that finished fifth with a tie of 3:30.73 and her back split of 53.97. In the meet with Cincinnati, she was third in the 50 free (22.45). She had a third place finish in the 100 back versus Indiana with a time of 53.41. She was fourth in the 40 free (22.60) at Kentucky and second in the 100 back at Missouri with a 53.62. At the Ohio State Invitational, she was sixth in the 100 back (52.82).
2023-24: During the dual meet season, Abby handled sprint duties for the Cards. Against Xavier, she finished sixth in the 100 free (55.65) and against Auburn, she was seventh in the 50 free (24.28, and helped the Cards o a second place finish in the 200 free relay. Against Notre Dame, she was eighth in both the 100 back (58.33) and the 200 backstroke (2:11.38). In the Missouri meet, she was seventh in the 100 back (57.07) and against rival Kentucky, she was on the 200 medley relay team (5th) and the 400 free relay team (4th). In the double dual meet with Indiana and Wisconsin, she was 10th in the 100 back (55.97) and helped her 200 medley relay team to a fifth place finish (1:39.76). In the meet with Cincinnati, she was fifth in the 50 free (23.70).
2022-23: During the dual season, Abby competed at Notre Dame with a seventh place finish in the 50 free (24.67) and was on the C Relay of the 200 Medley Relay team that finished sixth in 1:46.33.
2021-22: As a freshman, Abby finished eighth in the 200 back with a time of 2:12.32 against Tennessee. At IU, she placed sixth in the 200 medley relay with an anchor split of 22.65 and was part of the 400 free relay squad that touched fifth, swimming the second leg in 51.40. In the meet with Kentucky, she placed fifth in both the 200 medley relay (22.72 split) and the 400 free relay with a leadoff split of 52.31. Against Cincinnati, Abby was a part of the third place 200 medley relay, turning in an anchor split of 22.85 and was fifth in the 100 back with a time of 56.17.
Prep: Abby came here from Kansas City, Kan., where she graduated from Blue Valley High School and swam for Empire Kansas and Inspire Swim Clubs. She swam at the Olympic Trials in the 100 backstroke and posted the top time in the Missouri Valley. She was a top 10 finisher at Junior Nationals. in 2019, at the Jenks Speedo Champions Series, she won the 50 back and was a finalist in the 100 back. In the Columbia Speedo Champion Series, she won the 50 back and was second in the 50-free and sixth in the 100-freestyle.
