Cardinals Finish Third at Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming team both finished third after the final day of competition at the Ohio State Fall Invitational.

Ohio State women won with a score of 2666, just ahead of Indiana's 2553. The Cardinals were third in 2022 followed by Notre Dame (1459), Cincinnati (1317), Pitt (253), Ohio U (199) and California 171. The Indiana men won with a 2830 to beat Ohio State (2459), Louisville (1985.5), Notre Dame (1797.5), Cincinnati (1247), Pitt (341) and Cal 214.

IU's Chin Gan won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:48.70 with Louisville's Paige Kuwata touching eighth with a time of 16:38.12. Teammate Maddie Luther was 10th, going 16:46.73. On the men's side Ohio State's Sam Campbell won with a time of 14:48.25. Tyler Watson was the top Cardinal with a third place time of 15.00.39, Ilia Sibirtsev was sixth, posting a 15.06.48. John Bossler posted a 15:47.14 and Or Tal went 15:57.82 for the Cards.

Ohio State's Krista Martin took top honors in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.49. Louisville's Ally Boynton was eighth with a time of 1:57.04 and Rye Ulett was 12th was 1:54.43 and Jordan Durocher was 17th with a 1:58.71. In the men's 200 backstroke, ND's Tommy Janton won with a time of 1:40.34. Louisville's Jackson Millard was fourth with a time of 1:42.83. Drew Collins was 13th with a time of 1:47.70 and Ryan Hogan went 1:49.56.

Gabi Albiero won the 100 free with a time of 47.67 beating Amy Fulmer of Ohio State by .01 for the wind. Christiana Regenauer was third with a time of 47.73 and Lucy Mehraban was seventh (48.39) and Julia Dennis was eighth (48.41) with Karoline Barrett touching ninth in 49.53. Bianca Costea was 13th in 49.45. Tristen Ulett was 17th (49.91) and Ella Welch was 21st in 49.92. ND's Chris Guiliano won the 100 free with a time 41.30. Louisville Murilo Sartori was sixth as the top Card with a time of 43.33. Yassin Hossam was 7th in 43.48 and Matias Santiso tied Yassin Hossam. Dalton Lowe was ninth with a time of 43.51 just edging teammate Denis Loktev was tenth in 43.95.

In the 200 breast, Brearna Crawford posted the winning time of 2:07.62. Louisville's Emily Herkle was third (2:10.95), Fernanda Celidonio was 12th with a time of 2:14.22, and Adry Kasemets was 18th wit ha time of 2:18.86.

Louisville's Abby Hay won the 200 fly going away with a 1:54.83. Summer Cardwell was 12th, posting a 2:02.83. IU's Tomer Frankel won the men's 200 fly with a time of 1:41.94. UofL's Gustavo Saldo was third, turning in a 1:43.77 and teammate Tommy Bried touching fifth with a time of 1:44.55. Mateo Miceli was 12th (1:44.61) , Denis Loktev was 13th (1:45.02) and Aidan Paro boarded a  1:46.60. Â

The Louisville women's A-relay in the 400 Free Relay touched first with a time of 3:10.97 put up by Gabi Albiero (48.11), Christiana Regenauer (47.23), Lucy Mehraban (48.16) and Julia Dennis (47.47). The Cardinal B-relay team was fifth with a 3:18.12 put up by Bianca Costea (50.36), Karoline Barrett (48.74), Fernanda Celidonio (49.41) and an anchor of 49.61 by Ella Welch.
