Bio
Graduate:Gabi Albiero had an outstanding 2024-25 school year for the Louisville Cardinals swimming and diving team. At the NCAA Championships in March 2025, she earned All-American honors in multiple events, contributing to the Cardinals' seventh-place finish overall. Notably, she placed fifth in the 100 butterfly championship final with a time of 50.69 and also achieved fifth in the consolation final of the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.71. Albiero was also a key member of the Cardinals' relays, including leading off the third-place 400 freestyle relay team, with a split of 47.51 as the Cardinals went 3:08.71. At the ACC Championships, Her strong performances continued into April at the Brazilian National Championships, where she secured second place in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle, adding to an earlier second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay and a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Earlier in the season, in January 2025, she demonstrated her versatility by winning the 100 butterfly and being part of the winning 400 freestyle relay against Kentucky. Albiero also contributed to a pool record-setting performance in the 200 medley relay in a meet against Indiana.
Senior: At the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., Gabi scored 31 points and earned four first team All-American Honors and was a two-time HM All-American. She finished fifth in the 50 free (21.67), 10th in the 100 fly (51.10) and eighth in the 100 free. She helped the Cardinals 200 Free Relay squad to a second place finish (1:25.47) and the 400 Free Relay to a third place finish with a time of 3:09.08. She also swam on the 200 medley relay team that finished 11th with a time of 1:35.45. At the ACC Championships, she scored 78 points and won three silvers and two bronze medals. She won silver as part of the 200 free relay (1:25.39) and the 400 free relay (3:10.18). She won bronze as part of the 400 Medley Relay. She was sixth in the 50 free (21.77) and fourth in the 100 free (47.39). She was on the fourth place 200 Medley Relay team (1:35.37). During the dual season, she started the season with four wins against Xavier including the 50 free (22.42) and the 100 fly (53.58). At the prestigious SMU Classic, she notched four wins including the 50 free (21.75), 100 fly (51.16) and the 100 free (47.67). She had three wins against Notre Dame including the 200 fly (2:00.01), the 100 fly (53.26) and the 200 medley relay (1:40.47). She won the 50 free against Missouri (22.04). Four wins marked her performance against rival Kentucky with firsts in the 200 fly (1:54.95), 100 fly (51.25) and the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. In the double dual meet with Indiana and Wisconsin, she won both the 200 fly (1:53.80) and the 100 free (47.55) along with second places in the 200 medley relay (1:35.88) and the 400 free relay (3:11.81). She had four wins against Cincinnati including the 50 free (22.29) and the 100 fly (51.75). She qualified for the Olympic Trials and represented the United States as a part of Team USA at the Pan American Games where she won gold in the 50 M freestyle (24.84) and silver in the 4x100 free relay She was voted a Second Team CSC Academic All-American and was a three-time ACC Swimmer of the Week.
Junior: Gabi Albiero scored 44 points at the NCAA Championships. She earned All-American honors in the 200 Medley relay, the 50 free, 200 Free Relay, the 100 fly, the 400 medley relay, the 100 free and the 400 Free Relay. At NCAAs, she was part of the 200 Medley Relay team that touched fifth as she swam the anchor leg with a time of 20.88 as the Cardinals put up a 1:34.37. In the 50 free, she finished third with a time of 21.30. In the 200 Free Relay, Gabi led off the race with a 21.62 as the Cards went 1:25.29. She touched fifth in the 100 fly with a time of 50.15 and was fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.80. In the 400 Medley Relay, she swam the fly leg with a 49.86 as the Cards went 3:30.29. She led off the 400 Free Relay with a time of 47.38 as the Cardinals finished third with a 3:09.57. At the ACC Championships, Gabi scored 81 points for Louisville, winning six medals. She helped the Cardinals win bronze in the 200 Free Relay, anchoring the freestyle leg wit ha time of 20.88. In the 200 Free Relay, the Cards won silver with a 1:25.29, aided by her leadoff leg of 21.57. She won silver in the 50 free with a time of 21.36 and won bronze in the 100 fly with a time of 50.04. In the 100 freestyle, she touched fourth with a time of 47.06 before winning another silver leading off the 400 Free Relay with a 46.95. She set the school record in the 50 free (21.30), the 200 Free Relay (1:25.29), 400 Free Relay (3:08.92), 200 Medley Relay (1:34.23). She was named ACC Swimmer of the Week three times. Named to the 2023 USA National Team. She competed for the United States in the 2022 Duel in the Pool that was held in Sydney, Australia last August. She was named to the ACC All-Academic team.
Sophomore: As a sophomore, Gabi earned five All-American Honors and two honorable mention All-American honors. At ACC’s, she earned 77 points. She won in the 200 free relay with a leadoff leg of 21.92 in the 1:27.08 to make the podium. She was sixth in the 50 free (21.77), fifth in the 200 medley relay with an anchor split of 21.59. She won bronze in the 100 fly (50.90) and helped UofL to a fourth place finish in the 400 medley relay when she swam the fly leg with a split of 51.05. She added to her point total with a fourth place finish in the 100 free. At NCAAs, she amassed 35.5 points. She finished ninth in the 50 freestyle (21.69), fifth in the 100 free (47.32), eighth in the 200 medley relay with an anchor leg of 21.15, fifth in the 200 free relay splitting 21.74. Her 400 medley relay team touched 11th (50.53 split) and helped the Cards to a sixth place in the 400 free relay with a leadoff leg of 47.57. An excellent student, she was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll, the AD Honor Roll, Red & Black Scholar and as a Dean's Scholar. In the summer of 2022, she was chosen to represent Team USA at the Duel in the Pool in Australia. At the Phillips 66 US National Championships, Gabi placed 4th in the 50 freestyle, 3rd in the 100 freestyle, and 2nd in the 100 butterfly.
Freshman: Albiero made an immediate impact in her debut season for the Cardinals. She qualified for the NCAA Championships where she finished 14th in the 50 freestyle (22.27), 15th in the 200 butterfly (1:56.30), and 27th in the 100 butterfly (52.35). She was the lead-off on UofL’s eighth-place 200 freestyle relay in 22.13 and the 400 freestyle relay in 48.60 that finished 10th. Albiero also split a 51.44 on the 400 medley relay that finished sixth and anchored the 200 medley relay in 21.68 that took 12th. At the ACC Championships, she earned bronze in the 50 freestyle (22.03), placed fourth in the 100 butterfly (51.59), and finished ninth in the 200 butterfly (1:55.24). Her time of 22.03 in the 50 freestyle broke the UofL program record for freshmen. Albiero was also on four Cardinal relays that earned bronze: 200 medley relay (21.62), 200 freestyle relay (22.13), 400 medley relay (51.26), and 400 freestyle relay (48.68). At the UofL Invitational in November, she posted a time of 1:54.59 in the 200 butterfly to set a new freshman team record. Albiero posted three top-3 finishes throughout the abbreviated 2020-21 dual meet season, highlighted by a win in the 50 freestyle against Notre Dame. She also competed at the Toyota U.S. Open where she finished 13th in the 50m freestyle (25.89) and 14th in the 100m butterfly (1:00.21). For her efforts in the classroom, she was named to the ACC All-Academic Team.
Prep: Albiero joins the Cardinals from right here in Louisville, where she had a stellar club career swimming for Cardinal Aquatics. A multi-time Junior National, Senior National, and Olympic Trials qualifier, she was ranked No. 14 in SwimSwam’s Top 20 Class of 2020 and was named one of the top-10 recruits by SwimmingWorld. She has recorded eleven top-12 finishes at the Junior East Championships over the past three years, including a win in the 100 butterfly in 2017. At Phillips 66 Nationals in 2019, she finaled in both the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly. Albiero also had a successful career at Christian Academy of Louisville, winning a total of eight individual Kentucky State Championship titles in five seasons. Albiero, who is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, is the Kentucky state record holder in the 50 freestyle. She holds best times of 22.36 in the 50 freestyle, 49.32 in the 100 freestyle, 51.97 in the 100 butterfly, and 1:55.82 in the 200 butterfly.
