2023-24: Abby came back to use her final season of eligibility but battled injury to cut that season short. During the dual season, she was third in the 200 breast at Tennessee, she was second in the 200 breast versus Notre Dame and helped the Cards win the 200 medley relay. At the Ohio State Invitational, she won the 400 Meter IM (4:09.42), was second in the 200 Meter IM (1:56.79) and won the 200 Meter butterfly (1:54.83).
2022-23: Abby Hay has proven to be one of the Cards’ most reliable point scorers. At NCAAs, she scored 30 points for the Cardinals. She made the A-finals of the 200 IM where she finished seventh with a 1:54.62, shaving a half a second from her prelim time to earn All-American honors. She earned All-American honors as part of the 400 medley relay, leading off on the backstroke and posting a split of 52.15 as the Cards went 3:28.58. Her third All-American honor came in the A-final of the 200 butterfly where she turned in a 1:53.90 after turning in the fourth fastest time in school history in the prelim swim of 1:53.21. She made the consol final in the 400 IM, finishing 10th overall with a time of 4:06.30 for Honorable Mention All-American honors. At the ACC Championships, she scored 80 points for the Cardinals. She was a part of the bronze medal 200 medley relay with a leadoff leg of 23.54 (a school record) as the Cardinals went 1:34.23 to also set a new school record. She finished fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.48. She won bronze in the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.23 (second fastest in school history). Her time of 1:53.51 earned her a silver medal in the 200 fly. In the dual season, she had wins in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 butterfly at the Purdue Invitational. At Missouri, she won the 200 breaststroke. At Kentucky, she won the 200 She won the 200 IM against Cincinnati.
2021-22 Abby Hay was a two-time All-American and a two-time Honorable Mention All-American last year. She continues to be a reliable source of points for the Cardinals, scoring 49 points at the ACC Championships. She touched fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.25. She was seventh in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:09.85. She made the podium in the 200 fly with a bronze medal time of 1:54.77. She scored 20 points at the NCAA Championships. She led off the 200 Medley Relay with a 23.86 split, as the Cards finished 8th overall. She placed seventh in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.93 and was 12th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.35, dropping almost two seconds off her prelim time. She was a part of the 11th place 400 Medley Relay team, leading off with a 51.48. She placed 14th in her final event, the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.44. An excellent student, Abby was named to the AD Honor Roll, as a Red & Black Scholar and as a Dean's Scholar.
2020-21 Hay continued to make a big impact for the Cardinals and solidified herself as one of the best IMers in program history. At the NCAA Championships, she placed ninth in the 200 individual medley (1:56.02), 13th in the 200 butterfly (1:55.19), and 15th in the 400 individual medley (4:08.87). At the ACC Championships, she finished fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:55.67), fifth in the 400 individual medley (4:09.33), and seventh in the 200 individual medley (1:56.68). Hay posted six top-6 finishes throughout the abbreviated dual meet season, highlighted by a pair of third-place showings in the 200 individual medley and 200 butterfly against Kentucky. For her efforts in the classroom, she was named to the ACC All-Academic Team.
2019-20: Hay made an immediate impact during her first year with the Cardinals, qualifying for the NCAA Championships in both the 200 and 400 individual medley before the meet was cancelled. At the ACC Championships, she finished fifth in the 200 individual medley (1:56.86), sixth in the 400 individual medley (4:09.48), and 14th in the 200 butterfly (1:58.55). Hay earned bronze in the 400 individual medley (4:15.25) at the Purdue Invitational with a pair of additional top-8 finishes before going on to place 22nd in the 200-meter individual medley (2:19.26) at the Toyota U.S. Open. During the dual meet season, she was the runner-up in the 400 individual medley (4:21.40) against Northwestern and placed fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:03.71) versus Kentucky. For her performances in both the pool and in the classroom, Hay was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and awarded ACC Honor Roll and CSCAA Scholar All-America honors. She was also named to the CSCAA All-American team in the 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley.
Prep: A native of Pittsburgh, Pa, Hay brings versatility to the Cardinals after competing for Hawken High School. As a senior, she won the 200 IM and took second in the 100 fly en route to helping her team secure their fifth-straight overall title at the Ohio DII State Championships. Hay swam year-round with Lake Erie Silver Dolphins under coach Todd Clark, most recently racing both IMs at the 2019 Phillips 66 National Championships in Stanford, Calif. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is a multi-time Junior National qualifier, finishing fourth in the 400 IM and fifth in the 200 fly at 2017 Juniors East. She holds best times of 2:00.44 in the 200 IM, 4:12.60 in the 400 IM, 54.68 in the 100 fly, and 1:58.86 in the 200 fly.
