No. 5/3 Cardinals Complete Day 2 at Ohio State Invitational

Two records fall in finals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Two school records were set as the No. 5/3 University of Louisville swimming and diving team completed the second day of competition at the Ohio State Fall Invitational Wednesday, in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Â

The No. 5-ranked Cardinal men are in second, trailing only Indiana and the No. 3-ranked women are in third, trailing Ohio State and Indiana.

In the 100 fly, Cardinals Ella Welch (51.34) and Caroline Larsen (51.49) were second and third in the A-final. The event was won by Indiana's Miranda Grana's 49.98, the only sub-50 seconds swim of the field. In the A-final of the men's 100 butterfly, Rian Graham was in the mix of a wild finish that saw just over a second difference between the top seven spots. He touched in 45.48 for sixth place. Teammate Aidan Paro was ninth in the A-final with a time of 45.86. Yale's Nicholas Finch touched first with a 44.62 for top honors.

UCLA's Rosie Murphy touched first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.08 with Cardinal Kim Herkle touching fifth in the A-final with a time of 4:11.07 as the top UofL finisher. Freshman Maya Bezanson was second in the B-final, boarding a 4:14.16. For the men, Jackson Millard set a school record with a time of 3:39.11, just edged by Ohio State's Tristan Jankovics' 3:38.91. Teammate Gregg Enoch was fifth with a 3:40.94 just ahead of Tommy Bried's 3:42.94, making three Cards in the A-final.

Indiana's Liberty Clark was into the wall in 1:41.27 for the win in the 200 freestyle. UofL's Daria Golovaty of UofL was third with a 1:43.52 just ahead of Summer Cardwell's fourth place time of 1:45.05. UofL freshman Xeniya Ignatova won the B-final in 1:45.65. The Cardinals put three in the A-finals led by Guy Brooks' second place finish time of 1:31.60. Matias Santiso was fifth (1:34.84) and Oscar Isberg was eight, going 1:35.55.

Cincinnati's Joleigh Crye won the 100 breaststroke, turning in a 57.99 for the win. Louisville's Mia Cheatwood was third (59.29) and freshman Anna Inagaki was eighth in the A-final with a 1:00.76. Kim Herkle won the B-final with a 1:00.92.

Penn State's Mariano Lazzerini pulled away for the win in the A-final with a 50.96. Louisville's Jake Eccleston touched third with a 51.92 for the men.
In diving, on the 3M springboard, UofL's Audree Brazeau-Howes finished ninth with a score of 287.60 and teammate Sammantha Helmboldt scored 286.85 for tenth place. Rayce Winn put up a mark of 315.50 for 13th place and Ray Preas was 26th with a 267.45 and Mack Molloy was 27th, boarding a mark of 266.85.Â

Louisville's A-relay team of Caroline Larsen (21.71), Julia Dennis( 20.75) Julie Mishler (21.34) and Ella Welch (21.56) put up the winning time of 1:25.34 in the 200 free relay. The B, A-relay team battled to a fifth place finish with a time of 1:29.51 put up by Avery Karl (23.24), Abby Karl (22.05), Karoline Barrett (22.29) and an anchor by Daria Golovaty of 21.92. The men followed suit, tying a school record with a 1:14.74 posted by Nikita Sheremet (19.21), Charlie Crush (18.98), Aiden Musso (18.51) and Guy Brooks (19.04). The B-relay team of Matias Santiso (20.41), Ethan Chauliaguet (19.26), Rian Graham (19.07) and Ryan Henderson (19.10) went 1:17.84 for ninth place.Â
