LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 11/7 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team upset visiting No. 8/5 Tennessee Thursday afternoon at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The men won 178.5-121.5 and the women prevailed 157-143 in a tightly contested regional showdown.Â

The Cards' effort was buoyed by multiple event winners. For the women, Ella Welch won the 100 fly and 400 Free Relay and Daria Golovaty swept the distance events. Diver Lindsay Gizzi won both boards. On the men's side, Denis Petrashov swept the breast events and added a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Guy Brooks won the 200 freestyle and was on both winning relays. Eli Shoyat swept the distance events for the Cards after a year off.
In the first relay of the meet, the women's 200 medley relay was won by the University of Tennessee A team with a time of 1:36.15 . Louisville's A team foursome of Camille Murray (25.00), Caroline Larsen (26.96), Tristen Ulett (23.00) and an anchor of 21.96 by Gabi Albiero for a time of 1:36.56 came in second.
In the men's 200 medley relay, the team of Yassin Abdelghany (21.87), Denis Petrashov (23.23), Dalton Lowe (19.84), Guy Brooks (19.02) combined for the tied top time of 1:23.96 which was fast enough for a NCAA B-cut time. Tennessee's A relay team tied for first. The Louisville C relay team also scored thanks to a time of 1:26.78 put up by Filip Kosinski (22.30), Luke Shourds (24.25), Miceli Mateo (20.80), and Aiden Musso (19.43).

Freshman Daria Golovaty touched first for UofL in the grueling 1000 freestyle with a pool record time of 9:38.80. Sophomore Summer Caldwell finished third with a time of 9:53.62 for the Cards. For the men, Cardinal Eli Shoyat touched in 9:02.17 for the win with Kayden Lancaster finishing in third with a time of 9:15.02. Tennessee's Joaquin Vargas touched second with a time of 9:13.00.
Louisville's Paige Hetrick touched first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.12 to beat Tennessee's Brooklyn Douthwright who touched at 1:45.52. For the men, the Cards took three of the top four spots thanks to Guy Brooks (1:33.45), Denis Loktev (1:34.85), and Murilo Sartori (1:34.90). Tennessee's Nikoli Blackman touched second with a time of 1:34.81.
In the 100 backstroke, Tennessee's Josephine Fuller finished first with a time of 52.26. Louisville's Camille Murray finished fourth, touching at the 54.60 mark. For the men, Mateo Miceli finished first with a NCAA B-cut time of 46.86 from lane 1, followed by teammates Charlie Crush and Filip Kosinski who finished third and fourth, respectively. Tennessee's Harrison Lierz finished second with a time of 46.94.

In the women's 100 breaststroke, Tennessee's Emelie Fast was first to finish with a time of 59.51. Louisville's Mia Cheatwood touched third with a 1:00.09 time. For the men, Denis Petrashov finished first with a NCAA B-cut time of 52.01, with teammates Jake Eccleston (54.25) and Luke Shourds (54.42) finishing third and fourth. Tennessee's Kevin Houseman finished second with a time of 54.14.Â

On the men's side, Martin Espernberger of Tennessee finished first with a 1:41.82 time. Gregg Enoch (1:43.28) finished second for the Cards, with teammate Tommy Bried (1:44.62) finishing behind him with a time of 1:44.62. Both finished with NCAA B-cut times in the event.
In the 50 free, Camille Spink of Tennessee finished first with a time of 21.87. A trio of Cardinals followed, with Julia Dennis (21.92), Gabi Albiero (22.39), and Caroline Larsen (22.42), all of which finished with NCAA B-cut times. For the men, Tennessee's Jordan Crooks touched first with a time of 19.07. Louisville's Dalton Lowe finished third with an NCAA B-cut time of 19.65.

For diving, UofL's Lindsay Gizzi put up a score of 290.33 for the highest mark in the 3M board with teammate Samm Helmboldt posting a runner-up finish with a 281.33 mark. Tennessee's Maddie Reese and Lynae Shorter finished third and fourth, respectively. On the men's side, Tennessee's Bennett Greene posted the top score, with Louisville's Ray Preas (322.88) and Mack Molloy (310.43) finishing top three. In the 1M, Louisville's Lindsay Gizzi had the highest mark with a score of 278.85, with Sammantha Helmboldt (255.68) and Audree Howes-Brazeau (237.98) also posting top three finishes. Tennessee's Lynae Shorter (236.85) posted the top score for the Vols. Louisville's Che Stephens finished atop the men's 1M board with a score of 335.40. Louisville's Mack Molloy (327.68) and Ray Preas (315.15) finished second and fourth. Tennessee's Bennett Greene posted a third-place finish with a score of 321.00.

For the Cards, Denis Petrashov finished first for the men, posting a 1:54.04 NCAA B-cut finish, with teammate Jake Eccleston finishing behind him with a 1:57.11. In the final event of the evening, the Louisville A 400 Relay team of Caroline Larsen (48.84) Julia Dennis (47.27), Gabi Albiero (47.89) and Ella Welch (48.26) combined for the winning pool-record, NCAA A-cut time of 3:12.26. Tennessee had a runner-up NCAA A-cut time of 3:13.19. The foursome from Tennessee of Gui Caribe, Bjoern Kammann, Micah Chambers, Jordan Crooks touched first to win the men's relay with a time of 2:49.23 Louisville's men had a runner-up finish, touching in a NCAA B-cut time of 2:51.46 thanks to Guy Brooks (43.01), Murilo Sartori (42.78), Matias Santiso (43.43), and Dalton Lowe (43.02).
