No 11 Men Set to Host Purdue; No. 7 Women Travel to Face Irish

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 11/7 University of Louisville men's and women's swimmers will split for a pair of meets this Saturday, November 8. The women's team will travel to Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish at the Rolfs Aquatic Center at 6 p.m. While the men are set to host Purdue at Ralph Wright Natatorium at 3:00 p.m. The divers will stay in the Ville with the men facing Purdue and the women diving exhibition.Â

The team goes into the weekend after upsetting the Tennessee Volunteers on both the men's and women's side on Thursday, October 24th. The men scored 178.5 points to Tennessee's 121.5. While the women totaled 157 points to the Lady Volunteer's 143 points, in a showdown that came down to the final event.Â

There were many individual standout swims, as well as team relay finishes that highlighted the Tennessee dual meet. Freshman Daria Golovaty not only placed first, but broke pool records in both the 1000 and 500 freestyle. She posted a 9:38.80 in the 1000 freestyle and a 4:38.79 in the 500 freestyle. Fellow distance swimmer Eli Shoyat also swept the distance events on the men's side. Shoyat touched first in the 1000 freestyle (9:02.17) and first in the 500 freestyle (4:19.38), which was an NCAA B-cut time. Senior Denis Petrashov remains undefeated in breaststroke events on the season with winning times in the 100 breaststroke (52.01) and the 200 breaststroke (1:54.04). Diver Lindsay Gizzi earned a first place finish in both diving events. She scored a 290.33 in the 3M and 278.85 in the 1M. Multiple Cardinal relays showed out against Tennessee. The men's 200 medley relay (Yassin Abdelghany, Denis Petrashov, Dalton Lowe, Guy Brooks) tied for the winning time of 123.96 with the Tennessee A team. The women's 400 freestyle relay (Caroline Larsen, Julia Dennis, Gabi Albiero, Ella Welch) finished with a time of 3:12.26. This time won the event, set a new pool record, qualified as a NCAA A-cut time and put the finishing touches on the Cardinals comeback against the Lady Volunteers.

The Notre Dame women's team features two returning All-ACC First team swimmers in Madelyn Christman and Maggie Graves. First year swimmer from England, Hollie Widdows also joins the Fighting Irish as a European Junior Champion. Freshman Carli Cronk has had an impressive start to the season with multiple top 3 finishes against Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. She has an NCAA B-cut time in the 400 IM.
