Cardinals Complete Day 1 Prelims at Ohio State Fall Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Cardinals completed the first day of prelims at the Ohio State Fall Invitational at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The No. 12/3-ranked Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams are racing the nationally ranked Buckeyes. Other schools in attendance will be Indiana, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Ohio University (Diving Only), Cal (Diving Only), and Kenyon (Diving Only).
The meet will be contested over three days with action getting started at 9:30am with the 200 freestyle relay. Prelims will be conducted in the morning in meters and finals will follow at 5:30 ET in yards.

In the 400M freestyle, IU's Anna Peplowski turned in the fastest time with a 4:12.80. The first Cardinal into the wall was Summer Cardwell, who went 4:16.62 for fifth. Louisville's Paige Kuwata was 12th with a 4:23.52, Maddie Luther was 18th with a 4:26.19, and Rye Ulett was 22nd with a 4:28.86. Paige McCormick went 4:30.46 and Jordan Durocher was 24th with a 4:31.11.

In the men's 400M free, Ohio State's Alex Axon put up the best time with a 3:51.89. Louisville's Ilia Sibirtsev was second with a 3:52.42 with teammate Tyler Watson touching right behind him in third with a 3:53.32. Other Cards in the race were Gustavo Saldo (3:57.80), Kayden Lancaster (3:57.81, Denis Loktev (3:57.98) and Murilo Sartori (3:59.57) all in the top 12. Freshman Or Tal put up a 4:03.38, Tommy Bried turned in a 4:05.27, and John Bossler clocked in a 4:08.11.

Louisville placed two women in the top three spots of the 200M IM. OSU's Krista Martin turned in the top time of 2:15.31. Cardinal Abby Hay was second (2:15.56) and Kim Herkle was third in 2:16.55. Louisville's Fernanda Celidonio was seventh, with a time of 2:17.89, Madie Hall clocked in a 2:20.37, Tristen Ulett went 2:20.62, Rye Ulett had a 2:22.91 with Zoe Vogelman going 2:23.06. Also in the water for the Cards was Jordan Durocher (2:23.76) and Adry Kasemets (2:26.85).

In the men's 200M IM, Buckeye Tristan Jankovics was the lone swimmer sub-2 minutes with a 1:59.05. The top Cardinal finisher was Jackson Millard's fifth place time of 2:02.33, followed by Tommy Bried's 9th place time of 2:04.46. Freshman Aidan Paro went 2:05.81 and Luke Shourds turned in a 2:06.79 just ahead of teammate Drew Collins' 2:07.05. Charlie Crush boarded a 2:09.13, Jordan Kelly went 2:09.15 and Grant Gooding had a time of 2:09.34, Ryan Hogan went 2:10.62 and Aidan Kreiley posted a 2:10.78.

In the 50M free, Indiana's Kristina Paegle turned in the best time of 25.17. For the Cardinals, Gabi Albiero was third in 25.32, Lucy Mehraban was fourth in 25.50 with Julia Dennis and Christina Regenauer tying for fifth, both with a 25.55. Bianca Costea rounded out the final Cardinal in the top 10 with an 8th place tine of 25.84. Paige Hetrick was 12th in 26.07, Karoline Barrett was 13th in 26.13 and Ella Welch was 15th in 26.38. Ally Boynton went 27.36, Abby Karl went 27.39, Cecilia Viberg went 27.94 and Krista Wheeler turned in a time of 28.16.

In the men's 50M Free, ND's Chris Guiliana was the top finisher with a time of 22.25. Caleb Duncan was the top Cardinal with a tenth-place time of 23.08. Vlad Dubinin was 14th in 23.11 and Yassin Hossam was 15th with a 23.15. Freshman Matias Santiso was 17th in 23.31, Guy Brooks was 19th in 23.41 and Dalton Lowe turned in a 23.51. Owen Taylor stopped the clock at 23.765 and Kasper Johnsen turned in a 23.77. Rob Ehrenbord went 24.34, Grant Gooding went 24.53 and Denis Petrashov went 29.10. Â
