Swimming and Diving Are Third After Day 1 at Ohio State Fall Invitational

The Cardinals completed the first day of finals with both the men's and women's teams sitting in third at the Ohio State Fall Invitational at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
The men scored 579.5 points and trail on Indiana (803) and Ohio State (760). The Cardinal men are followed by Notre Dame (491.5, Cincinnati (337), Pitt (103) and Cal Berkley (52). Â The women scored 646 points and trail leader Ohio State (791) and Indiana (711). The Cards lead Notre Dame (386), Cincinnati (355), Ohio University (112), Pitt (63) and Cal (60).Â
The No. 12/3-ranked Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams are racing the nationally ranked Buckeyes. Other schools in attendance will be Indiana, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Ohio University (Diving Only), Cal (Diving Only), and Kenyon (Diving Only).
The meet will be contested over three days with action getting started at 9:30am. Prelims will be conducted in the morning in meters and finals will follow at 5:30 ET in yards.
The Cardinals' A 200 Free Relay finished third when the foursome of Gabi Albiero (22.08), Christiana Regenauer (21.58), Julia Dennis (21.58) and Ella Welch (22.26) put up a 1:27.32. The B Relay went 1:28.77 which was posted by Lucy Mehraban (22.43), Karoline Barrett (22.04), Bianca Costea (22.20) and Paige Hetrick (22.10) to finish fourth. The women's event was won by Indiana in 1:26.86.Â
The men's A 200 Free Relay finished fifth in 1:18.38 put up by Yassin Hossam (19.89), Dalton Lowe (19.34), Caleb Duncan (19.34) and Vlad Dubinin (19.39). The UofL B 200 Free relay team was .10 behind with Charlie Crush (19.60), Matias Santiso (19.63), Guy Brooks (19.54) and Kasper Johnsen (19.71) combined for a 1:18.48. Notre Dame won the men's event with a time of 1:16.84.
Indiana's Anna Peplowski won the 500 free with a time of 4:38.29. The fastest Cardinal in the event was Summer Cardwell, who touched eighth with a 4:49.62.  Paige Kuwata was 15th with a 4:50.80 just out-touching teammate Maddie Luther's 4:51.86.  Rye Ulett was 21st (4:51.74), Jordan Durocher was 23rd (4:56.65) and Paige McCormick was 24th in 4:58.35.Â
Ohio State's Tomas Navikonis won the 500 free with a time of 4:15.65. Louisville's Ilia Sibirtsev was third (4:16.05), Tyler Watson was fourth (4:16.43), Kayden Lancaster was 7th (4:25.12) and Denis Loktev was 8th in 4:25.22. Gustavo Saldo was 10th (4:30.29), Murilo Sartori was 11th (4:18.74) and Or Tal was 19th (4:29.55). Tommy Bried is 24th in 4:24.76.
In the 200 IM, Ohio State's Josie Panitz edged Louisville's Abby Hay with a atime of 1:56.18 to Hay's 1:56.79.  Fernanda Celidonio was fourth (1:57.40), Kim Herkle was sixth (1:58.64) and Tristen Ulett was 11th in 1:59.69.Â
In the men's 200 IM, OSU's Tristan Jankovics won with a 1:42.76. The top Cardinal in the event was Jackson Millard, who touched sixth in 1:45.21.  Tommy Bried was ninth (1:48.68) and Aidan Paro was 13th (1:46.13).Â
In the women's 50 freestyle, Indiana's Kristina Paegle won, posting a time of 21.76.  Louisville's Gabi Albiero was second (21.92) and teammate Christiana Regenauer was a close third (21.93). Cardinal Julia Dennis was sixth (22.00) just edging teammate Lucy Mehraban who was seventh in 22.20.  Bianca Costea was 10th in 22.56 for the Cardinals and Ella Welch was 16th with a time of 22.94.Â
In the men's 50 freestyle, ND's Chris Guiliano took top honors with a time of 18.84.  Freshman Yassin Hossam was the top Card with an 11th place time of 19.60.  Matias Santiso was 14th in 19.92 just head of teammate Vlad Dubinin's 19.94 and Caleb Duncan's 20.05. Guy Brooks was 19th with a tie of 20.31 and Dalton Lowe went 19.42.
Ohio State won the 400 Medley Relay with a tie of 3:28.10. Louisville's A-Relay touched fourth with a time of 3:31.82 put up by Abby Hay (53.17), Ella Welch (1:00.37), Gabi Albiero (50.66) and Christiana Regenauer (47.62). Â The B-Relay was fifth with a time of 3:34.82 put up by Paige Hetrick (52.76), Kim Herkle (1:00.65), Karoline Barrett (52.99) and Lucy Mehraban (48.42).Â
The Ohio State B Relay won the 400 Medley Relay in 3:11.32. The Louisville men put up a sixth place time of 3:10.38 from Dalton Lowe (46.09), Denis Petrashov (51.50), Mateo Miceli (46.73) and Matias Santiso (42.96). Â The B-relay of Yassin Hossam (47.97), Luke Shourds (52.76), Charlie Crush (46.7) and Vlad Dubinin (52.86) combined forces to finish sixth in 3:10.38.Â
