Cardinals Complete First Day at Indiana - Texas- Louisville Tri-Meet

Cards will swim short course yard events on Saturday against IU and UT
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 9/13 Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team fell to No. 4/18 Indiana and No. 2/8 Texas  in a long-course tri-meet at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon.Â

UofL began the meet with a third place finish in the 200M medley relay when Ashlyn Schoof (30.38), Mariia Astashkina (32.89), Grace Oglesby (27.96) and Christiana Regenauer (26.36) combined to post a time of 1:57.59.

The UofL men won their 200M medley relay when Nikkos Sofianidis (26.58), Evgenii Somov (28.04), Nicolas Albiero (24.62) and Mihalis Deliyiannis (22.59) cruised to a time of 1:41.83.

Sophie Cattermole was the top Cardinal in the 800M freestyle with a 9:17.16. Maggie Jahns was eighth, going 9:26.58. The event was won by IU's Cassy Jernberg.

Illia Sibirtsev turned in a time of 8:31.87 in the men's 800M free as the top Cardinal finisher. IU's Mikey Cavillo turned in the top time of 8:13.89.

In the 200M freestyle, Arina Openysheva was fourth with a time of 2:04.75 and teammate Annette Schultz was 8th (2:06.53), Maria Sumida was ninth (2"08.43) and Diana Dunn was 10th (2:08.63).

Colton Paulson clocked in a 1:56.42 in the men's 200M free as the top Louisville finisher. Bartosz Piszczorowicz touched 9th in 1:56.77. Â The event was won by Texas' Drew Kibler.

Ashlyn Schoof was fourth in the 100M back for the Cardinal women and teammate Sofie Underdahl was sixth (1:05.89) just ahead of Kyla Alexander (1:06.92). The event was won by Texas' Claire Adams.

Nikkos Sofianids was fourth in the men's 100M back for Louisville when he stopped the clock at 57.92. Jack Wever was seventh (58.39) and Mitchell Whyte was 11th (59.24). Texas' Austin Katz out-touched the field with the winning time of 56.73.

Mariia Astashkina touched third in the 100M breaststroke behind IU's Emily Weiss (1:10.01) and Noelle Peplowski (1:10.79). Cardinal Morgan Friesen was fourth with a time of 1:12.73.

Evgenii Somov battled to the finish, winning with a time of 1:02.84 in the 100M breaststroke, outlasting Texas' Caspar Corbeau's 1:02.90. Aaron Parrott was 8th for the Cardinals with a 1:06.76 and Sasha Palazzo was 11th in 1:08.51.

UofL's Grace Oglesby was second in the 200M butterfly, trailing only Texas' Kelly Pash (2.11.61). UofL's Alena Kraus was fourth with a time of 2:18.31. Abby Hay (2:23.38) and Carley Lowe (2:24.83) rounded out the field for the Cards.

Daniel Sos was third in the men's 200M butterfly with a time of 2:04.04. UT's Sam Pomajevich was first with a time of 2:01.07. Nicolas Albiero was fifth, clocking in at 2:04.53.

Casey Fanz won the women's 50M freestyle (26.45) and Lainey Visscher was second (26.66) for the 1-2 Cardinal sweep. Louisville's Avery Braunecker was sixth (26.95) and Christiana Regenauer was 10th in 27.35.

Mihalis Deliyiannis touched fourth in a wild finish in the men's 50M free, posting a 23.47. There was just .13 of a second between first (UT's Daniel Krueger tied with IU's Jack Franzman at 23.14) and fourth place.  Card Caleb Duncan was seventh in 23.79 and Tanner Cummings was 8th in 23.89.

Michaela Sliney was fourth in 1M diving, posting a 277.45 just edging teammate Molly Fears, who scored a 273.65. Longhorn Paola Pineda put up the top score of 305.65.

In the 100M freestyle, UT's Bridget Semenuk was first with a 56.08. UofL's Arina Openysheva was fourth with a 57.63 and Casey Fanz was seventh with a time of 58.57.

Bartosz Piszczorowicz was the top finisher in the men's 100M freestyle, touching in 52.99 just ahead of teammate Michael Eastman's 53.03. Texas' Maxime Rooney was first to the wall with a 50.47.

Annette Schultz was the top UofL finisher in the 200M backstroke with a fourth place time of 2:21.30, just sneaking by teammate Sofie Underdahl, who went 2:21.78 and Ashlyn Schoof's 2:22.85.

Indiana's Jacob Steele won the men's 200M backstroke, stopping the clock at 2:05.31, with UofL's Nikkos Sofianidis was the top Cardinal finisher with a 2:09.85 just ahead of teammate Greyson Alarcon's 2:10.15.

Mariia Astashkina was into the wall second in the 200M breaststroke with a time of 2:34.37 behind IU winner Noelle Peplowski's 2:32.32. Cardinal Morgan Friesen turned in a fourth place time of 2:3738 and Diana Dunn was fifth with a 2:40.71.
Cardinal Daniel Sos's 2:24.23 was good for fourth place in the men's 200M breaststroke. Evgenii Somov was 10th in 2:28.53 and Aaron Parrot went 2:33.35 to round out the field. The event was won by Longhorn Caspar Corbeau.

In the 400M freestyle, Maria Sumida turned in a 4:30.42 as the top Cardinal racer. Sophie Cattermole went 4;31.86. The Hoosiers took top honors with a first place from Cassy Jernberg (4:16.84).

In the men's 400M free, T.C. Smith turned in the fifth place time of 4:06.57 just ahead of Cardinal teammate Ilia Sibirtsev's 4:06.74. Hayden Curley went 4:07.67 to round out the field.

Grace Oglesby was third in the 100M butterfly with a 1:02.01 and Alena Kraus was fifth with a time of 1:02.96. Winner Kelly Pash of Texas was the only sub-minute finisher with a 59.74. Nastja Govejsek was seventh in 1:03.76 and Carley Lowe turned in a 1:07.97.

Nicolas Albiero was third in the men's 100M fly with a 54.98 behind just UT's Maxime Rooney's 53.86 and IU's Van Mathias' 54.33.
In the men's 3M diving, Daniel Pinto was fourth with a score of 365.00. Sean Riley (271.20), Sky Geovanni (268.55) and Kivanc Gur had a 262,10 to round out the field.

The Cardinals were fourth in the 400M free relay when Arina Openysheva (58.27), Lainey Visscher (59.88), Casey Fanz (57.95) and Annette Schultz (57.82) posted a collective 3:53.92.

The men's foursome of Tanner Cummings (52.95), Colton Paulson (52.74), Santiago Aguilara (53.06) and Caleb Duncan (53.49) posted a 3:32.24. IU took top honors with a 3:28.70.
The Hoosiers, Longhorns, and Cardinals will all compete in a short course tri-meet beginning at 10 a.m. on Nov. 9 at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center.
