Bio
Junior: Cummings continued to be a valuable asset to the Cardinals’ sprint group during his third season at UofL. At the NCAA Championships, he finished 35th in the 50 freestyle (19.70) and 40th in the 200 freestyle (43.28). He also split 19.16 on UofL’s 200 freestyle relay at NCAAs that finished 11th overall. At the ACC Championships, he placed fifth in the 50 freestyle (19.45), 14th in the 100 freestyle (43.05), and 21st in the 100 breaststroke (53.52). He also split 18.89 on the winning 200 freestyle relay and anchored the silver-medal 400 freestyle relay in 42.28 at ACCs. Cummings posted six top-6 finishes throughout the abbreviated dual meet season, highlighted by a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle against Cincinnati. He also swept the 50 and 100 freestyle at the Louisville Invitational and took third in the 50 freestyle versus Notre Dame. For his efforts in the classroom, Cummings was named to the All-ACC Academic Team.
Sophomore: Cummings played an integral role in the Cardinals’ sprint group during his second year and was selected as a relay alternate for the NCAA Championships before the meet was cancelled. At the ACC Championships, he placed 19th in the 100 freestyle (43.74), 20th in the 50 freestyle (19.74), and anchored the silver-medal winning 200 freestyle relay in 19.26. Cummings also finished sixth in the 50 freestyle (20.04) and 11th in the 100 freestyle (44.34) at the Purdue Invitational and recorded 10 top-8 finishes throughout the dual meet season. For his performances in both the pool and in the classroom, Cummings was awarded ACC Honor Roll and CSCAA Scholar All-America honors. He was also named to the CSCAA All-American team in the 200 freestyle relay.
Freshman: Following a breakthrough meet at the Louisville First Chance Invitational, Cummings was selected for the Cards’ NCAA Championships squad, where he anchored the school-record breaking 10th place 200 free relay with a split of 19.17. At the Louisville First Chance Invitational, he recorded a personal best time of 19.93 in the 50 free and took first in the 100 free (43.93) and 100 fly (48.96), both personal bests as well. In the dual meet season, he scored points for the Cards against Indiana and in the win over Northwestern and was a valuable member of the Cards’ sprint relays. Cummings was a member of the Cards’ eighth-place 4x100m free relay at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Stanford, Calif. where he also competed in the 50m free, finishing with a time of 23.18.
Prep: Cummings joins the Cardinals from Bowling Green, Ky., where he attended Greenwood High School and swam club at RACE Aquatics Swim Club under coach Scott Gainey. At the 2018 KHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships, he captured a bronze medal in the 100 fly with a time of 50.32 and won the consolation final in the 100 back (52.49). At the club level, he competed at the 2017 Winter Junior Nationals in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly and 200 IM. Additionally, Cummings is a 10-time Kentucky state champion. He holds best times of 20.92 in the 50 free, 45.92 in the 100 free and 49.58 in the 100 fly.
