
No. 11/8 Cardinals Head Into ACC Championships

Competition begins on Tuesday
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The No. 11/8 University of Louisville Cardinals are headed to Greensboro, NC for the 2025 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships that are off the blocks this week at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Preliminaries begin each morning (Wednesday through Saturday) at 9:30 a.m. ET with finals commencing at 5:30 p.m. ET. Tuesday's competition begins at 10 a.m. ET with finals at 6:00 p.m. ET.

The Louisville women, who finished in second in 2024 and the men, who were fourth will have their work cut out for them when competition begins Tuesday with the addition of perennial powers California and Stanford as well as SMU (last year's Atlantic Sun Champion) joining them on the pool deck. Boston College returns to the postseason after being suspended last year, returning with a new head coach, Olympian Dara Torres. Meanwhile, the Notre Dame men will not compete due to the program being suspended for a year. Â

There are nine ACC men's teams and eight on the women's side ranked in the top 25. The Virginia women are ranked No. 1 and the Cal men are No. 3 as the top contenders for the title heading into the week. Â The field will be wide open on the men's side as only three individual champions from 2024 return: Carles Coll Marti, Youssef Ramadan and Kyle Ponsler. Â UofL's Ilia Sibirtsev, who won the gold medal in the 1650, has graduated. The Cardinals gold medal 800 free relay team of Murilo Sartori, Guy Brooks, Denis Loktev and Gustavo Saldo all return individually but the relay lineups are yet to be released.

The Cardinal women will be led by Gabi Albiero , Julia Dennis and Paige Hetrick along with newcomers Mia Cheatwood and Daria Golovaty. Diver Lindsay Gizzi is the Cardinal who has finaled for UofL in previous ACCS.  The men will feature proven point producers in Dalton Lowe, Denis Petrashov, Murilo Sartori, Guy Brooks and Tommy Bried.Â
