
No. 14/9 Cardinals Set for ACC Championships in Greensboro

Competition begins on Tuesday
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The No. 14/9 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams enters postseason competition at the 2024 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships. The championship will run Feb. 20-24 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Live video coverage of the event will be available on the ACC Network Extra. Streaming will cover both prelims and finals during each day of competition.

Both Cardinal squads finished third last season at the Championships.

Highlights from 2023-24 Regular Season

University of Louisville diver Else Praasterink advanced to the finals before finishing 11th  on the 10M platform in the World Aquatics Championships being held in Doha, Qatar early Monday morning. Diving for her native Netherlands, Praasterink qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Murilo Sartori won gold as part of Brazil's 4x200 relay team. Brazil's foursome set a Pan American Games record by three full seconds. Sartori led off the relay with a split of 1:47.52 as Brazil put up a 7:07.53 to sit atop the podium.
Gabi Albiero won individual gold when she tied NCAA Champion Maggie MacNeil in the 50 freestyle finals with a time of 24.84.
Matias Santiso swam in the 50 free prelims, boarding a 23.02 for Argentina.

ACC WOMEN'S SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK
Gabi Albiero, a senior from Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky picked up two first-place finishes and two NCAA B cut times in the 200 fly (1:53.80) and 100 free (47.55) during No. 8 Louisville's tri-meet with No. 9 Indiana and No. 14 Wisconsin. Her time in the 100 free ranks 10th in the nation and is just .4 seconds off a NCAA A cut time. The Louisville, Kentucky, native clocked a 21.20 split as the anchor in the 200 medley relay (1:35.88) before leading off the 400 free relay (3:11.81) with a split of 48.10, adding two NCAA A cut times. Against Cincinnati on Louisville's senior day, the senior added two more first-place finishes in the 50 free (22.29) and 100 fly (51.75), both NCAA B cut times. In the relays against the Bearcats, Albiero earned two more NCAA A cut times as a member of the winning 200 medley relay (1:37.36) with a split of 22.81, and 200 free relay (1:27.26) with a split of 22.96.

Kim Herkle, a junior from Stuttgart, Germany, posted a trio of first-place finishes and NCAA B-cut times in No. 6 Louisville's win over Missouri. The junior finished atop the podium in the 100 breast (1:00.52), 200 breast (2:09.82) and 400 IM (4:12.72), with those times ranking 47th, 26th and 35th, respectively.
Kim Herkle, a native of Stuttgart, Germany helped her team to the 189-69 win over Xavier in the season opener. The meet was the first regular season meet for Herkle in a year, as she missed all of last year's. Against the Musketeers, Kim swept the breaststroke events with a 1:02.22 in the 100 breast and a time of 2:13.24 in the 200 breaststroke. She also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.91 and was a part of the winning 200 Medley Relay squad that combined for a 2:13.24. Her time in the 200 breast is ranked second in the nation and a B-cut; her 100 breaststroke time is ranked No. 5 in the nation and her time in the 200 IM is ninth in the nation. The 200 Medley Relay time is No. 7 in the nation.Â
ACC DIVERs OF THE WEEK
Lindsay Gizzi, South Bend, Indiana, swept the diving events for the eighth-ranked Cardinals against Cincinnati. The junior placed first in the 1-meter with a 293.70 and in the 3-meter after scoring a 337.13. In Louisville's tri-meet with No. 9 Indiana and No. 14 Wisconsin, the junior totaled a 315.60 in the 1-meter and a 290.33 in the 3-meter. All four dive scores are NCAA qualifying marks.Â

Adam Sneden, a graduate student from Charlotte, N.C., won the 3-meter event for No. 13 Louisville with a 352.35 score. He placed second in the 1-meter with a 297.75.

Her scores qualify her for the NCAA Zone Meet which is the meet to decie NCAA participants in diving.

Che Stephens, a junior from Valparaiso, Indiana, swept the diving events, scoring a 344.03 in the 1-meter and a 324.00 in the 3-meter as Louisville hosted Auburn. The junior recorded NCAA zone scores in both dives.
