
No. 15/8 Men's and Women's Swimming Sweep Rival Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The 15/8 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming team swept rival University of Kentucky Saturday afternoon in the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The No. 8 Cardinals women won 210-90 and the No. 15-ranked men won 209.5-88.5.

The Cardinals were powered by sweeps in distance by Ilia Sibirtsev, breaststroke by Denis Petrashov, diving by Lindsay Gizzi, butterfly by Gabi Albiero, and sprint by Christiana Regenauer. The Cardinals won all four relays with Ella Welch, Gabi Albiero swimming on both the winning 200 medley and the 400 free relays. Dalton Lowe won the 50 free, 100 fly and was on both winning relays as was Petrashov and Matias Santiso, who also won the 100 freestyle.

In the 200 medley relay, the Louisville women took the top two spots led by the A-relay team of Karoline Bennett (25.04), Ella Welch (27.15), Christiana Regenauer (22.58) and Gabi Albiero (21.87) put up a B-cut time of 1:36.64, just .4 seconds shy of an NCAA A-cut. The Cardinal B-Relay team of Rye Ulett (25.85), Cecilia Viberg (27.93), Tristen Ulett (23.35) and Julia Dennis (21.36) touched second with a time of 1:38.49.

In the men's 200 medley relay, the Cardinals' A-Relay of Dalton Lowe (21.18), Denis Petrashov (23.64), Charlie Crush (20.65) and Matias Santiso (19.37) combined for a time of 1:24.84 and the win. The UofL B-Relay touched second in 1:26.65 put up by Jackson Millard (21.77), Luke Shourds (24.11), Mateo Miceli (21.19) and Vlad Dubinin (19.58).

In the 1000 yard freestyle, Kentucky swept the top two spots led by Caroline Benda's 9:45.40. Maddie Luther was third as the top Cardinal with a 9:53.92. Paige Kuwata was fifth with a  time of 9:54.57. On the men's side, Ilia Sibirtsev set a pool and school record with his 8:46.07. Tyler Watson was fourth for the Cardinals with a time of 9:08.85.

In the women's 200 freestyle, the Cardinals' Summer Cardwell touched first with a 1:45.19 just out-touching teammate Fernanda Celidonio's second place time of 1:45.87. For UofL, Lucy Mehraban was fourth with a time of 1:47.72 and freshman Zoe Vogelmann was seventh with a time of 1:49.83 in exhibition. The Cardinal men took the top three spots in the men's 200 freestyle led by Denis Loktev's winning time of 1:34.67. Murilo Sartori was second in 1:34.96, and Guy Brooks was third in 1:35.07.

Louisvlle's Paige Hetrick won the 100 back with a time of 52.63 for a B-cut. Teammate Ally Boynton was second with a 53.57 and Rye Ulett was fourth in 53.74 in a tightly contested finish. On the men's side, Jackson Millard won the 100 back with a 46.91 and Charlie Crush was second for UofL with a time of 47.44. Drew Collins was fourth, turning in a 48.83 for the Ville.

In the 100 breaststroke, Ella Welch was the only swimmer under a minute with the winning time of 59.99. Cecilia Viberg was third for the Cardinals, boarding a time of 1:01.55 and Kim Herkle was fifth with a 1:01.71. For the men, Denis Petrashov took top honors with a time of 52.34 with teammate Luke Shourds right in his wake for second in 53.57. Aidan Kreilley was fourth with a 54.41.

Gabi Albiero ran away with the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.95, three seconds ahead of the field. Tristen Ulett was third for the Cards, boarding a 1:58.84 and Madie Hall was fourth, going 2:00.24. Kentucky's Ryan Merani won the men's 200 butterfly with a time of 1:42.50, just edging UofL's Gustavo Saldo's 1:42.86. Cardinal Tommy Bried was third in 1:44.21 and teammate Aidan Paro was fourth in 1:45.85.
Christiana Regenauer won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.95, just out-touching fellow Card Julia Dennis' 21.98. UofL sophomore Karoline Barrett was third in 22.79 to complete the sweep. Â Dalton Lowe won the men's 50 free for the Cardinals with a time of 19.37. Cardinal Caleb Duncan was second with a time of 20.09. Vlad Dubinin was fourth, going 20.19.

In men's diving, UK's Sam Duncan boarded a score of 318.83 to edge UofL's Che Stephens' 316.95. Adam Sneden was third for the Cards with at 315.08 in a tightly contested 1 meter competition. Sneden won the 3M board with a score of 365.40. Rayce Winn was third, posting a 330.38.

Lindsay Gizzi won the 3M springboard with a score of 308.85 for the Cardinals. UofL's Grace Leonard was fourth with a 286.95. Gizzi won the 1M board as well with a score of 306.83. Grace Leonard was sixth with a 238.88.

The Cardinals swept the top four slots in the women's 100 freestyle led by Christiana Regenauer's winning time of 48.26. Julia Dennis was right behind for second with a 48.57 and Lucy Mehraban scored with a 48.58. Ella Welch was fourth with a time of 48.69 in exhibition. The Cardinal men had a top three sweep led by Matias Santiso's 43.35. Denis Loktev was second with a time of 43.73 and Guy Brooks tied for third with a 44.01.

In the 200 backstroke, UK's Grace Frericks was first with a time of 1:53.77, just out-touching UofL's Rye Ulett's 1:53.81. Cardinal Ally Boynton was third with a 1:55.95 and Jordan Durocher was sixth with a 1:58.33. In the men's event, Louisville's Jackson Millard was first, putting up a time of 1:42.22, four seconds ahead of the field. UofL's Drew Collins was fourth, going 1:48.83 and Ryan Hogan was fifth with a 1:51.72.

Cardinal Kim Herkle was first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.06. Cardinals Madie Hall was third (2:12.67) and Fernanda Celidonio was fourth with a 2:13.55. The men's 200 breaststroke was won by Louisville star Denis Petrashov's 1:55.17. Tommy Bried was right behind for second with a time of 1:57.75 and Luke Shourds was fourth with a 1:59.71.

Maddie Luther was second in 4:50.11 and Paige Kuwata was sixth in 4:59.33.Ilia Sibirtsev got his second distance win of the day with a 4:17.80 in the 500 free. Gustavo Saldo was third in 4:24.65 and Tyler Watson was fourth 4:25.50 for the Cardinals.

Gabi Albiero set a pool record in her win of the 100 butterfly, turning in a 51.25, just edging teammate Christiana Regenauer's 51.41. Karoline Barrett made it a sweep with a third place time of 53.74. Cardinal captain Dalton Lowe won the men's 100 butterfly, with a pool record time of 45.33. Card Mateo Miceli was third in 47.47 and Aidan Paro was fourth in 47.86.

In the 200 IM, Fernanda Celidonio posted the winning time of 1:58.94, to lead a 1-2-3-4 sweep by the Cards, followed by Kim Herkle (1:59.58), Tristen Ulett (2:00.18) and Madie Hall (2:01.01). Kentucky's Ryan Merani was the men's 200 IM winner wit ha time of 1:46.82. Louisville's Jackson Millard was second in 1:46.00 and Aidan Paro was third in 1:48.43.

In the final events of the day, the Cardinals won both 400 free relays. The women were led by the A-relay of Gabi Albiero (48.10), Julia Dennis (47.69), Lucy Mehraban (48.99), and Ella Welch (48.15) who combined for a 3:12.93 for a pool record. The B-relay team was second, going 3:19.16, put up by Bianca Costea (50.38), Karoline Barrett (49.01), Fernanda Celidonio (51.37), Tristen Ulett (48.40).

The Cardinal men won their 400 free relay, sweeping the top two spots as well. Matias Santiso (43.54), Dalton Lowe (42.67), Denis Loktev (42.93) and Guy Brooks (43.66) combined for a 2:52.80.
