Cards and Vols were racing Long Course Meters in Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 12/3 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team split with the No. 6/6 University of Tennessee in a tightly contested meet in Knoxville. The No. 12 Louisville men upset No. 6 Tennessee 156-144. The No. 3-ranked Louisville women fell 152-148 to the Lady Vols Friday afternoon at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. Â

The meet was contested in Long Course Meters (LCM), which is standard for the Olympics and all world events. In the coming weeks, several members of both programs will compete in the Pan American Games as a precursor to the Olympic Games.

The Cardinals' highlights included multiple event winners Jackson Millard, who swept both backstroke events, Denis Petrashov, who swept both breaststroke events and Ilia Sibirtsev, who won both distance events. On the women's side, Gabi Albiero won the 50M freestyle, the 100M freestyle and diver Else Praasterink won both the 1M and 3M springboard. Paige Hetrick won the 100M butterfly and was on both winning relays, as was Ella Welch and Christiana Regenauer.

The Louisville men won the 200M Medley Relay, with a 1:39.85 put up by Jackson Millard (26.31), Denis Petrashov (27.57), Dalton Lowe (23.86), Dalton Lowe (23.86) and an anchor of 22.11 put up by Matias Santiso. Tennessee won the women's 200M Medley Relay with a time of 1:49.66. The Louisville A-relay touched second with a time of 1:51.94 put up by Paige Hetrick (28.88), Ella Welch (31.77), Gabi Albiero (26.33) and Julia Dennis (24.96).

In the women's 800-meter freestyle, Tennessee took the top three slots with Paige Kuwata being the first Cardinal into the wall with a fourth-place time of 9:03.98. Maddie Luther was sixth with a 9:16.72. In the men's event, Ilia Sibirtsev was into the wall first with the winning time of 8:06.95. Tyler Watson was third, turning in a time of 8:13.91, John Bossler was sixth (8:33.71 and Or Tal was seventh (8:38.17) for the Cards.

Louisville made it a 1-2 sweep in the men's 200M freestyle when Denis Loktev touched with the winning time of 1:48.96. Murilo Sartori was second in 1:49.39. Cardinal freshman Kayden Lancaster was fourth, going 1:53.28. Tennessee took the top two spots in the 200M freestyle, led by Brooklyn Douthwright's 2:00.90. Summer Cardwell was the top Louisville finisher when she touched third with a 2:02.32. Fernanda Celidonio was fifth (2:03.59) and Zoe Voglemann was seventh with a time of 2:08.16 for the Cards.

Jackson Millard won the 100M backstroke for the Cardinals with a time of 55.93. Dalton Lowe was fourth (57.72 and Kasper Johnsen was sixth with a 58.50. In the 100M backstroke, UT's Josephine Fuller was first with the winning time of 1:00.58. Louisville's Paige Hetrick was second (1:00.90) and teammate Rye Ulett was third in 1:02.95. Cardinal freshman Ally Boynton was fifth, stopping the clock at 1:04.40.

Denis Petrashov won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.90, more than three seconds ahead of the field. Aidan Kreiley was third in 1:04.39 and Luke Shourds (1:05.84) was fourth. In the women's 100m breaststroke, Vol Mona McSharry pulled away from the field with a time of 1:07.20. UofL's Kim Herkle was third (1:11.09), Ella Welch was fourth (1:11.97) and Abby Hay was fifth in 1:21.71.

In the 200M butterfly, UT's Sara Stotler was first with a time of 2:15.33 and UofL's Madie Hall was second in 2:17.31 with teammate Jordan Durocher touching fourth in 2:19.55. UT's Martin Espernberger took top honors in the men's 200M butterfly with a 1:57.47. Louisville's Tommy Bried was second in 2:01.76, Gustavo Saldo was third, going 2:03.13 and Mateo Miceli was sixth in 2:07.14.

The Louisville women swept the top four spots in the 50M freestyle, led by Gabi Albiero's top time of 25.12. Christiana Regenauer was second (25.52), Lucy Mehraban was third (25.57) and Julia Dennis was fourth with a time of 25.61. In the men's 5M0 free, Caleb Duncan was second with a time of 23.17. Matias Santiso was third in 23.18, Vlad Dubinin was fourth in 23.20 and Owen Taylor was sixth in 24.14 for the Cardinals.

In men's 1M diving, Adam Sneden held off three UT divers to win with a score of 344.33. Rayce Winn was fifth with a 270.60 and Che Stephens was sixth with a score of 270.00. Else Praasterink won the women's 3M springboard with a score of 316.73. Lindsay Gizzi was fourth with 288.68 and teammate Samm Helmboldt was fifth with a 282.38 for UofL.

In the 100M freestyle, Gabi Albiero won with a time of 55.26 just ahead of Lucy Mehraban's 55.65 for UofL. Julia Dennis was fifth with a 57.53 and Ella Welch was seventh, going 58.99. UT's Guilherme Santos won the men's 100M Free, turning in a 48.38. Louisville's Matias Santiso (50.11) was second and Murilo Sartori was third (50.56) for the Cardinals.

The Ville's Jackson Millard picked up his second individual win with the top time of 2:01.93 in the men's 200 backstroke. Louisville Ryan Hogan was fifth (2:13.17) and Drew Collins was sixth (2:14.11). In the women's 200M backstroke, Volunteer Josephine Fuller was first, boarding a 2:12.66. UofL's Rye Ulett was second in 2:16.75 and Jordan Durocher was fourth in 2:18.51.

Denis Petrashov won the 200 breaststroke for a Cardinal breaststroke sweep, turning in a 2:16.89, almost three full seconds ahead of the field. Louisville's Tommy Bried was third (2:21.69), Aidan Kreiley was fourth (2:25.18) and Jordan Kelly was fifth with a 2:28.33. Mona McSharry made it a breaststroke sweep with her winning time of 2:28.73 in the 200M for the Lady Vols. The Ville's Kim Herkle was second with a time of 2:29.15 with teammates Abby Hay touching third (2:37.13) and Madie Hall in fourth with a 2:37.79.

Louisville freshman Summer Cardwell won the women's 400M freestyle, stopping the clock at 4:16.63. Paige Kuwata was sixth (4:28.21) and Zoe Vogelmann was seventh, going 4:30.44. Ilia Sibirtsev won the men's 400M with a 3:55.78. Gustavo Saldo was fourth with a 3:58.56, Denis Loktev was fifth with a 3:58.75 and Tyler Watson was sixth with a 3:59.84 all for the Cardinals.

In diving,  UT's Bryden Hattie won with a score of 370.35. Louisville's Adam Sneden was third (333.98), Che Stephens was fourth with a score of 328.20 and Rayce Winn was sixth with a score of 282.68 on the 3M springboard. For the women's 1M springboard, Else Praasterink was first with a score of 291.53 and Lindsay Gizzi was second, turning in a 283.05. Samm Humboldt had a 251.85 for the Cards.

In the 200M Individual Medley, UT's Josephine Fuller notched the win with a time of 2:14.35. Kim Herkle for Louisville was second, boarding a 2:16.62 and teammate Fernanda Celidonio was third with a time of 2:18.74 just ahead of fourth place's Rye Ulett (2:21.18) and fifth's Summer Cardwell (2:21.63). UT's Landon Driggers was the fastest in the men's 200M IM with a time of 2:04.47, edging Louisville's Jackson Millard's time of 2:05.36. UofL's Tommy Bried was third (2:06.59) and Charlie Crush was fifth for the Cards with a 2:09.85.

In the final event of the day, the Louisville 400 Free B-relay team of Lucy Mehraban (25.47), Christiana Regenauer (24.69), Ella Welch (25.58) and Paige Hetrick (25.36) combined for a 1:41.10 and the win. UT won the men's 400M free relay with a time of 3:20.49. The Louisville men went 2-3 in the race led by the A-relay team's time of just .05 later in a wild finish. Matias Santiso (50.13), Denis Loktev (50.07), Vlad Dubinin (51.07) and Murilo Sartori put up a 3:20.54 for second as the A-relay team. Â
