Cards drop first part of triple header in new format
The University of Louisville swimming and diving teams wrapped up the first day of the dual meet against the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday night. Louisville fell 246.5-188.5 to the Wolverines in the first of a best-of-three series on Friday (Oct. 7) at Canham Natatorium. In keeping with the meet's "tripleheader" format, a roll of the dice determined the distances of the session's events, producing some rare races in the first round of competition in this best-of-three format.

The night started off with the 400-mixed relay 'A' team of Grigory Tarasevich, Carlos Claverie, Grace Oglesby, and Mallory Comerford taking first place with a time of 3:26.30. The Cards 'B' team of Aaron Greene, Andrea Cottrell, David Boland, and Casey Fanz touched fourth with a time of 3:29.73.

In the women's 800-freestyle, Marah Pugh (8:00.51) touched third, Maggie Jahns (8:07.19) followed in fifth, and Sophie Cattermole (8:13.92) and Emily Moser (8:18.32) finished seventh and eighth respectively.

In the men's 800-freestyle, Jarrett Jones (7:31.49), Jake Schultz (7:34.06), Etay Gurevich (7:38.01), and Keegan Foulke (7:41.24) boarded fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively.

Oglesby (24.76) touched first in the women's 50-butterfly followed by Hannah Magnuson (25.24) in third, Abbie Houck (25.47) in fourth, and Laine Visscher (26.79) in eighth.

In the men's 50-butterfly, David Boland took second with a time of 21.91, followed by Josh Quallen (22.01) in third, Matthias Lindenbauer (22.35) in fifth, and Zach Harting (22.58) touched seventh.

Cottrell posted a time of 28.25 in the women's 50-breaststroke to take first, followed by Avery Braunecker (30.45) in fourth, Maggie Patterson (30.51) in sixth, and Silva Guerra (31.33) in eighth.

In the men's 50-breaststroke, Claverie touched second with a time of 25.68, followed by Carroll (26.07) in fifth, Brennen Berger (26.71) in seventh, and Jonathan Zoucha (27.06) in eighth.

In the women's 200-freestyle, Comerford posted third with a time of 1:48.14, while Houck (1:50.45), Pugh (1:51.08), and Rachel Grooms (1:52.35) touched fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.

Carroll took the men's 200-freestyle, posting a time of 1:37.51. Lindenbauer followed in fourth with a time of 1:39.59, Harting (1:40.41) in sixth, and Andrej Barna (1:42.34) in eighth.

In the women's 200-backstroke, Sofi Underdahl placed fourth with a time of 2:01.19, while Alina Kendzior (2:01.78) placed fifth, Jahns (2:04.97) placed seventh, and Kenzie Buss (2:06.44) placed eighth.
