Bio
Graduate: Despite being sidelined by an early-season injury, James bounced back to score points in both the 100 and 200 breast at the ACC Championships. She finished 16th overall in the 200 breast (2:14.49), while also adding a 23rd place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.88. James also won the 200 breast at the Louisville First Chance Meet with a time of 2:16.33.
Senior: James had a breakout year for the Cardinals in her senior season, qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career. At NCAAs, she competed in the 100 breast (1:01.66) and 200 breast (2:12.31). James had a successful ACC Championships, scoring 41 points for the Cards and placing fourth in the 200 breast (2:09.95). She also made finals in the 100 breast, finishing 12th with a time of 1:01.20. At the Winter National Championships, James posted a seventh place finish in the 200 breast. She also had a strong showing at the Phillips 66 National Championships, qualifying for finals in both the 100-meter (1:09.83) and 200-meter breast (2:29.00). In the dual meet season, she put up a fourth place finish in the 100 breast at the Cards’ meet against Kentucky. James also excelled in the classroom, earning CSCAA Scholar All-America honors.
Junior: As a junior, James once again competed in the ACC Championships, qualifying for her first ACC championship final, placing seventh in the in the 200 breast (2:13.41). She also swam the 200 IM (2:02.78) and finished 23rd in the 100-breast (1:02.63) at ACCs. At the UofL Invitational, James scored 83 points for the Cardinals, finishing first in the 100 breast (1:02.26), second in the 200 breast (2:11.61), and seventh in the 200 IM (2:02.93), Other highlights from the season include a second place finish in the 100 breast (1:05.02) and third in the 200 breast (2:20.07) against Xavier.
Sophomore: At the ACC Championships, she was 10th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.30, scoring 16.5 total points. In the dual meet season, highlights include a 1:04.00 in the 100 breast at the UofL Invitational where she also put up a 2:18.09 in the 200 breast. She also had a 200-IM time of 2:07.97 at the UofL Invitational. At the Arena Pro Series in Indy, she was a finalist in the 100-meter breast (1:11.70), and in the 200-meter breast (2:33.92). At Charlotte, she was a finalist in the 100-meters. She was an US Olympic Team Trials qualifier.
Freshman: James recorded her season best in the 200 breast with a second place finish in 2:21.47 against Xavier. James also was the third Cardinal in the 200 IM against Xavier with a time of 2:08.57. She was ninth at the Michigan Quad with a 2:21.98 in the 200 breast. She swam at the Arena Pro Series in Charlotte where she competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter breast and both individual medleys.
Prep: Lauren comes from Baltimore where she was a state champion at Tuscarord High School and swam for NBAC under Coach Erik Posegay. Lauren was a national qualifier in the 200 breast and 400 IM. She also competed in the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 200 back. She finished 20th in World Championship Trials in the 200 breast. Lauren has also been named a two-time Scholastic All-American.
Personal: Daughter of Donald and Toni James. Born on November 24, 1996. Major is undecided.
