Swimming and Diving Have Record Setting Prelims at Day 1 of UofL Invite

Six Team field
The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team set pool records in every event in the first morning of preliminaries for the UofL Invitational Friday morning at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Â

"We had some fast times this morning and tonight we are hoping to put up some good relay times," said Stephanie Juncker, UofL assistant coach.

In the women's 500-free, senior Andrea Kneppers posted the fastest time with a 4:42.23 which set a pool record and met an NCAA B-cut. Freshman Mallory Comerford posted a 4:45.38, which was also under the meet record as well as being an B-cut. Marah Pugh posted a 4:49.22 for third and Abigail Houck was fouirth in 4:53.37. Devon Bibault put up a 4:57.85. All four will swim the A-final this evening.

In the men's event, Trevor Carroll put up a pool record time of 4:17.09 for an NCAA B-cut. Matthias Lindenbauer wenta B-cut  4:18.73 and Jake Schultz was third in 4:28.22. Nolan Smith had a 4:29.53 and teammate Ruben Izarra boarded a 4:29.92. All will swim the A-final tonight in the finals.

Kelsi Worrell set a meet record in the 200-IM with a 1:56.75 which was also an NCAA B-cut. Rachael Bradford Feldman was second in 1:58.81, just ahead of Andrea Cottrell's 2:00.02 and Alexandra Sellers' 2:01.06. All were NCAA B-cuts. Alina Kendzior qualified fifth in 2:01.79 and Devon Bibault was seventh in 2:03.62 and Manuela Sampaio was the final qualifier in the A-final with a time of 2:04.28.

In the men's 200-IM, Nolan Tesone set a pool record and made an NCAA B-cut with a time of 1:44.94. Josh Quallen qualified second with a 1:46.12 and had a B-cut as well as being under the meet record as well. Jonathan Zoucha was third with a 1:46.71. David Boland was fourth in 1:47.41 just ahead of Grigory Tarasevich's 1:47.54. All were B-Cuts. Carlos Claverie was sixth in 1:49.74 and Dexter Thomas earned the last slot in the A-final with a 1:50.95.

In the women's 50-free, Kelsi Worrell set a meet and pool record and made an NCAA B-cut time of 21.97. Qualifying second was Andrea Kneppers, who went 22.96. Mallory Comerford, 23.13, Andrea Cottrell qualified fifth in 23.37. Alexandra Sellers was sixth in 23.46. Also making the A-final for UofL, Hannah Magnuson who was seventh in 23.55 and Alina Kendzior was eighth in 23.64.

In the men's 50 free, the entire A-final will be composed of all Cardinals, led by Trevor Carroll's pool record time of 19.84. Pedro Coutinho qualified second in 20.15 followed by Matthias Lindenbauer (20.29), Nick Hasemann (20.39), Christian Garkani (20.45), Josh Quallen (20.48), Grigory Tarasevich (20.60) and Matyi Kovacs (20.68).Â
