No. 9/7 Swimming and Diving Stand In Third at Ohio State Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After the first day of competition at the Ohio State Invitational, the 9/7 University of Louisville swimming and diving team is third on both the men and women's side.

The Louisville men put up 681 points for third place, trailing only Indiana (869.5) and Ohio State (687). Yale is fourth (377.5), Penn State is fifth (349), followed by Cincinnati (273), Northwestern (75) and Notre Dame (6). The Louisville women racked up 658 points behind Indiana's 753 and Ohio State's 750. Cal is fourth with 405, followed by Notre Dame (301), Penn State (242), Cincinnati (215), Yale (207) and Rutgers (93) and Northwestern (15).

The Cardinals started Day 1 finals out with a bang as the foursome of Caroline Larsen (22.02), Julia Dennis (21.06), Ella Welch (21.77) and an anchor by Gabi Albiero (21.33) combined for a 1:26.18 for an NCAA A-cut to win the 200 Free Relay. The Cardinal men touched second in 1:16.36 for an A-cut put up by Yassin Abdelghany (19.30), Dalton Lowe (19.08), Charlie Crush (19.25) and an anchor of 18.73 posted by Guy Brooks. The A final was won by Indiana's 1:16.23 in a tightly contested final lap. Â The B-relay team touched seventh in 1:18.20 put up by Rian Graham, Aiden Musso, Matias Santiso and Rob Ehrenborg.

In the 500 freestyle, Daria Golovaty touched third with a time of 4:39.14, dropping more than three seconds off her entry time, making a B-cut. Summer Cardwell was seventh, going 4:44.17, also a B-cut. The event was won by Anna Peplowski's 4:37.06. In the men's 500 free, Yale's Noah Millard put up the winning time of 4:11.29. The top Cardinal was Murilo Sartori, who touched fifth with a 4:15.70. Gregg Enoch was sixth with a time of 4:16.93.

In the 200 IM, Indiana's Miranda Grana touched first with a time of 1:55.88 with Louisville Cardinal Fernanda Celidonio into the wall third with a 1:57.77 and a B-cut. Kim Herkle was ninth with a 1:58.78. On the men's side, IU's Owen McDonald put up a 1:40.86 to win. Louisville freshman Gregg Enoch was the top Cardinal racer with a fifth-place time of 1:43.56 and Jackson Millard was seventh turning in a 1:44.42 all B-cuts.

In the 50 free, IU's Kristina Paegle edged the field with a 21.92. UofL's Julia Dennis was second with a 21.98 just ahead of teammate Caroline Larsen's 22.22, who touched third. Gabi Albiero was fifth with a 22.29 and Karoline Barrett was sixth (22.42) and Lucy Mehraban was 10th with a time of 22.58 – all were B-cuts. Mikkel Lee of IU won the men's 50 free with a time of 19.18. Yassin Abdelghany tied for second with a time of 19.34. Guy Brook touched fourth with a time of 19.35. Dalton Lowe was sixth with a 19.38, Aidan Musso was seventh (19.63), Aian Musso was seventh (19.63) and Charlie Crush rounded out the top ten with an 8th place time of 19.74.

In the 400 medley relay, Louisville foursome of Paige Hetrick (25.39), Mia Cheatwood (27.43), Ella Welch (28.01) and an anchor by Julia Dennis and a 3:31.20 to finish third and a B-cut. Indiana's A-relay put up the winning time of 3:29.93. The B-relay of Camille Murray, Caroline Larsen, Tristen Ulett and Lucy Mehraban was seventh with a 3:36.12. In the men's 400 medley relay was won by Indiana's A-relay with a time of 3:03.63. Louisville's B-relay was seventh with a 3:08.09 put up by Jackson Millard, Jake Eccleston, Aidan Paro and Murilo Sartori.
