16 swimmers and two divers will compete in the unique format
LOUISVILLE, Ky. --Â University of Louisville swimming and diving team is sending its most versatile swimmers to the 2024-25 SMU Classic held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
Friday's action is slated to begin at 7 p.m. (ET), while Saturday's competition is set for 12 p.m. Â (ET). The meet will be streamed and live results will be available on SMUMustangs.com, DiveMeets and on the Meet Mobile App.
The 2024 edition of the Classic features four teams that finished in the top 26 at the NCAA Championships last year. Â Â The Cardinal women, who finished sixth at NCAAs last year, will face Auburn (12th), Miami (40th), Texas A&M (14th), and Virginia Tech (26th). Â The Louisville men (15th at last year's NCAAs) will take on Auburn (12th), Indiana (4th), Texas A&M (16th) and Virginia Tech (9th).
Event Format
The event features each team bringing eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day, and events will be contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1- and 3-meter. Scoring will be as follows: Individual: 16-13-12-11-10-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 Â and Relays: 24-20-18-16-14-12
Cardinal Women
UofL is sending Gabi Albiero, Summer Cardwell, Fernanda Celidonio, Kim Herkle, Paige Hetrick, Caroline Larsen, Tristen Ulett, Ella Welch, and diver Lindsay Gizzi.
 Cardinal Men
The Cardinal men are sending Guy Brooks, Charlie Crush, Gregg Enoch, Jake Eccleston, Dalton Lowe, Jackson Millard, Denis Petrashov, Murilo Sartori and diver Mack Molloy.
Last year's SMU Classic
The University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team won the SMU Classic and the Cardinal women were second as the two-day meet came to a close Saturday afternoon in Dallas.
The men scored a winning 313 points ahead of Auburn's 312 followed by USC (305), Texas (270), Missouri (234) and SMU (227). The women scored 334 points, trailing only USC (345). Next came Auburn (289), Missouri (242), SMU (217), and Miami (Fla.) (205).  Else Praasterink was named Diver of the Meet.
