No. 5/3 Cardinals Compete Day 1 at Ohio State Invitational

Women are first and the men are third after the relays session
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Louisville women are first and the Cardinal men are third after the first day of racing at the Ohio State Invitational Tuesday  at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The No. 3-ranked women lead the nine team field and the No. 5-ranked men trail only Indiana and Ohio State in the eight-team field.

The meet is scheduled identically to the NCAA Championships, giving swimmers experience in the five-day format. Â Diving begins on Wednesday with the prelims starting at 11:30 a.m.

In the 200 Medley Relay, the UofL women were into the wall first with a time of 1:33.69 put up by Julie Mishler (23.88), Caroline Larsen (26.51), Ella Welch (22.51) and Julia Dennis (20.79). Mishler's split in the 50 back set a new freshman school record for the Cards. The Louisville B-relay of Abby Karl (24.60), Mia Cheatwood (27.11), Karoline Barrett (23.50) and Avery Karl (22.73) combined forces for a 1:37.82 and seventh-place points.
The Louisville men's 200 Medley Relay featured Rian Graham (21.23) Finnley Conklin (23.79), Aiden Musso (19.69) and Nikita Sheremet (18.45) who went 1:23.16 for an NCAA cut. The foursome of Jackson Millard (21.15) Grant Gooding (23.36), Aidan Paro (20.36) and Ethan Chauliaguet (19.56) finished in 1:24.43. The event was won by Indiana, with the Hoosiers going 1:21.99.

In the 800 Free Relay, the UofL women were second with a time of 7:00.76 posted by Daria Golovati (1:44.71), Summer Cardwell (1:44.78), Julia Dennis (1:45.65) and Maya Bezanson (1:45.62). The B-relay touched 10th with a time of 7:14.77 put up by Xeniya Ignatova (1:45.85), Leticia Romao (1:46.85), Sadie Murphy (1:49.40) and Kaitlyn Sallows (1:51.67).

In the men's 800 Free Relay, UofL were into the wall third, clocking in at 6:13.44 from Guy Brooks (1:32.47), Oscar Isberg (1:33.59), Gregg Enoch (1:33.84) and Matias Santiso (1:33.54). The B-Relay team of Thomas Powers-Hammond (1:36.24), Max Hatcher (1:34.22), Owen Stevens (1:38.37) and Kayden Lancaster (1:36.18) stopped the clock at 6:28.01.
