Cardinals Still Going Strong After Day 7 at Olympic Trials

Zach Harting throws down lifetime best in 100 M Butterfly to advance to both the semi and finals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville has 21 swimmers at the US Olympic Trials being contested in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis with Zach Harting advancing to the finals in the 100 butterfly with a lifetime best time.
Highlights include Tokyo Olympian Zach Harting advancing to the semi-finals of the 100 Butterfly with a 51.49. On Friday evening, he finished third in the semifinals with a time of 51.16 for another lifetime best.Â

Meanwhile at the European Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, Cardinal Forever Andrej Barna helped his native Serbia win the first gold medal of the 2024 Euros. Â The Serbs combined for a time of 3:12.90 with Barna throwing down a huge split with a 46.86 putting the team from 5th to 1st. He was able to hang on for the win by splitting a 21.99 going out and a 24.87 coming home.

The Cardinals will swim in 42 preliminaries, hoping to advance to the semifinals and then the finals.  Preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. ET and the Final Session will begin at 7:45. The preliminaries will be televised on Peacock and the Finals on NBC and Peacock.
USA Swimming has constructed a championship caliber pool in Lucas Oil and the the event will be the largest in swimming history, with a seating capacity of of approximately 30,000 spectators close to double the amount of seating available than the facility in Omaha where the meet has been hosted since 2008, and where the seating capacity was close to 15,000. Â
The meet will feature 1,007 swimmers who have qualified swimming in 28 events. The top two finishers in each event will qualify for Team USA as long as those winning times are Olympic A-cuts and the top six in the 100 and 200 freestyle will earn a roster spot to man the relays.
