Women Win SMU Classic, Men are Second

DALLAS – The University of Louisville women's swimming and diving team won the SMU Classic and the men were second after two days of racing  at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center, Saturday.
The women scored 329 points to beat Auburn (294), Texas A&M (293), Miami (278), Virginia Tech (253) and SMU (227). The Louisville men scored 308, trailing only Indiana and were ahead of Virginia Tech (303), Auburn (261), Texas A&M (233) and SMU (231).
Event Format
The event features each team bringing eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day, and events will be contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1- and 3-meter. Scoring will be as follows: Individual: 16-13-12-11-10-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 Â and Relays: 24-20-18-16-14-12

In the 200 medley relay, the Cardinal women finished second when Paige Hetrick (25.11), Ella Welch (27.49), Gabi Albiero (23.36) and Caroline Larsen (22.16) combined forces for a 1:38.12. The men touched third with a 1:24.99 boarded by Dalton Lowe (21.62), Denis Petrashov (23.23), Charlie Crush (21.02) and Guy Brooks (19.12).

In the 500 freestyle, Summer Cardwell was second in the A-final in 4:45.47 for a B-cut and Fernanda Celidonio turned in a 4:48.58 in the B-final. For the men, freshman Gregg Enoch was into the wall third with a time of 4:23.03. Murilo Sartori carded a 4:22.85 for eighth place.

In the 200 breaststroke, Kim Herkle ran away with the race with a B-cut 2:09.88, almost five seconds ahead of the field. Ella Welch was second in the B-final with a 2:13.09 and also made a B-cut. For the men, Denis Petrashov was second wiwth a B-cut time of 1:52.97 and teammate Jake Eccleston won the B-final with a time of 1:55.40.

In the 200 backstroke, Cardinal Paige Hetrick was second with a B-cut time of 1:54.94 and Tristen Ulett was third in the B-final, turning in a 1:57.86. For the men, Jackson Millard was second, boarding a 1:43.17 for a B-cut in the A-final. Charlie Crush was third in the B-final with a time of 1:47.31.

In women's 1M diving, Lindsay Gizzi was fifth with a score of 252.25 and on the men's side in the 3M board, freshman Mack Molloy was fifth with a 340.20 which was a Zone qualifying tie.

In the 100 freestyle, Cardinal frosh Caroline Larsen was fifth with a B-cut time of 48.95 and Gabi Albiero won the B-final with a time of 49.03. For the men in the 100 free, Guy Brooks was third in 42.96 and Murilo Sartori won the B-final, going 43.41.Â

In the 200 butterfly, Tristen Ulett was third in the A-final put up a B-cut time of 1:58.82. In the B-final, Summer Cardwell turned in the second place time of 1:59.94. For the men, Gregg Enoch pulled away with the A-final win with a B-cut time of 1:43.14. Dalton Lowe was second in the B-final, stopping the clock at 1:47.44.

In the 200 IM, Fernanda Celidonio pulled away from the field to win with a B-cut time of 1:58.51, two second ahead of the runnerup. Kim Herkle was second in the B-final, posting a 1:59.75. In the men's 200 IM, Jackson Millard was fourth with a time of 1:46. 28 and freshman Jake Eccleston was fourth in the B-final with a time of 1:49.21.

In the final event, the Louisville women were second in the 200 medley relay with a 1:29.89 put together by Caroline Larsen (22.62), Gabi Albiero (22.11), Ella Welch (22.47) Tristen Ulett (22.69). The men were fifth, posting a time of 1:19.03 posted by Guy Brooks (20.16), Dalton Lowe (19.85), Charlie Crush (19.44) and Murilo Sartori (19.58).
