In the Hilltopper half of the third, a sacrifice fly by Scotty Colt with the bases loaded preceded a three-run home run by Newton that gave WKU a 4-3 lead. Casey Hamilton then singled up the middle and Dennis Winn singled to left, which was mishandled by Howes, allowing Hamilton to score, making it 5-3 Toppers.
Daniel Burton singled to lead off the fourth, and was doubled home by Lowrey. After Nick Haley moved Lowery to third with a sac bunt, Johnson singled him home to tie the game at five.
