2006: Belted 13 doubles, a team-high five triples and six home runs, driving in 41 runs. Was 8 for 9 on steals to lead the team. Turned it on in the second half of the season, he batted .363 with 22 runs, 11 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 20 RBI and six steals in as many attempts over the final 28 games of the regular season. Howes had 14 extra-base hits and scored 14 runs during the 12-game win streak that was ended in the BE title game. Drove in a career-high and BE Championship record-tying five runs in win over Rutgers in semifinal matchup (5/26), belting a homer and a double. Went 3 for 4 with three doubles, a stolen base, a walk, was hit by a pitch, drove in two, scored three and made a running catch in left in which he slammed into the fence but held on in Senior Day win over Seton Hall (5/20). Stole two bases and scored three times, including the winning run in the bottom of the 12th against Seton Hall (5/18). Drove in a career-high four on 2 for 2 effort with a double, a walk two HBP and his fourth home run of the season in win over Morehead (5/16). Logged a 2 for 4 effort with a double and a home run in win over Villanova (5/13). Made the BIG EAST Honor Roll with 7 for 9 effort in wins at #8 Notre Dame, belting two doubles, two triples and driving in a pair of runs. Was 4 for 8 in doubleheader against UC (4/29), belting his third home run of the year in the nightcap. Enjoyed a solid series at WVU, going 5 for 13 with four runs, two home runs and four RBI. Went 2 for 4 with a walk in win at GU (4/9). Doubled in a run, scored and walked twice, adding a stolen base at GU (4/7). Tripled in his second consecutive game, driving in three in 2 for 5 outing in win over EKU (3/29). Went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI in win over Rutgers (3/26). Scored twice in win at EKU (3/7). Went 4 for 5, doubling and driving in two in win over EMU (3/4). Drove in a pair and walked twice in both wins over Northwestern (2/24 & 25). His RBI single in the bottom of the ninth scored the winning run on the 25th. Drove in two and scored the tying run with two out in the ninth from first on a single against XU(2/22). Drove in two runs on two sac flies.
2005: Enjoyed a banner year before a broken hand ended his season prematurely. Hit .319 with 15 doubles, five triples, four home runs, 33 RBI, 23 walks and a .519 slugging percentage, starting 47 games and playing in 49. Hit .333 in C-USA games with nine doubles, three triples and three home runs in 25 games, driving in 19 runs. Had a team-best 21 two-out RBI. Was 2 for 3 with three runs, two RBI a walk and his fourth home run of the season in win over Wright State (5/16). Blasted two home runs, including an inside-the-parker, to go with a double and four RBI in win at #24 TCU (5/14). Turned in second career four hit game, going 4 for 4 with a double, triple, two RBI and three runs scored in win over Butler (5/10). Was 3 for 4 with a pair of walks in win at Charlotte(5/8). Drove in four runs in win at Charlotte (5/6). Was 3 for 5 with two doubles and his first home run of the season in win over USM (5/1). Enjoyed a career-best 4 for 7 effort in win over WKU(4/25), driving home two in the bottom of the ninth. Was 3 for 6 with three RBI and three runs scored in win at SLU (4/24). Scored twice and drove in two runs, walking twice and doubling in win at SLU (4/23a). Doubled twice, driving in a run against ECU (4/16). Drove in two and scored twice against UK (3/30). Picked up multi-hit efforts in both wins over #1 Tulane, scoring three times and driving in two. Had a pair of base hits in win over #12 Georgia. Won a game with a walk-off base hit for the second time this season, when his single down the right field line plated the game winner in a 7-6 win over #12 Georgia (3/12a). He was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI that game. His RBI single in the bottom of the ninth capped a four-run rally in an 8-7 win over EKU (2/23). Hit safely in every game against Kent to open the season, including a double and triple.
2004: Played freshman campaign as the everyday left fielder in spacious Cardinal Stadium. Hit nine doubles, three triples and five home runs in 51 games. Hit his fifth home run of the season, going 3 for 4 at USM(5/8). Was 3 for 4, scoring four runs against TCU(4/30). Picked up a pair of hits, scoring twice in win over Evansville(4/20). Went 2 for 3 with two runs, including game winner in victory over Charlotte(4/16). Hit his third home run of the game in the seventh inning of the win. Was 2 for 4 with a two-run home run in win over WKU(4/6). Went 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs, also tripling in win over UC(3/26). Smacked three doubles, scoring twice in the Cards' win over UAB(3/20). Plated the game-winner with first career triple in win over UC(3/14). Drove in two and scored two in win over BSU(3/13). Was 2 for 3 with a school record-tying four walks against BSU(3/12). Drilled a three-run homer in the first inning, his first of his career, putting the Cards ahead for good in win over Illinois State(2/28). Was 2 for 6 with a double and three runs scored in SDSU(2/21) win. Drove in a run and scored a run in win over EKU(2/25).
High School: A two-year All-State honoree, earning four letters in left field at national power Pleasure Ridge Park High School. Hit .333 in limited duty as a sophomore. Hit .411 with eight doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 51 RBI, 37 runs and was 9 for 10 on steals as a junior. His senior season saw him hit .437 with 38 runs, 12 doubles, six triples, eight home runs, 41 RBI and six steals without being caught. Did not commit an error in high school.
Personal: Born in Louisville on 9/28/84 to Jim and Jamie Howes. He is majoring in sports administration. Has three siblings, Sarah(17), Andrew(24) and Joshua(28). Earned a tryout to the USA team in Joplin, Missouri after high school. His dad played basketball and baseball at Tulane. Favorite movies include Dumb and Dumber and Goldmember. Watches Seinfeld and Friends on TV. His favorite athletes are Pete Rose and Miguel Cabrera. Likes Chinese food, Raisin Bran, and Life. The Red Sox are his favorite team. His dream dinner guests would be God, his grandfather and ESPN's Erin Andrews.
