Cards Score 13 Unanswered in Win Over Bellarmine
May 12, 2026 | Baseball
Louisville (28-25) improved to 22-9 at home this season and will welcome Virginia to Patterson for a three-game series beginning on Thursday.
It was all Bellarmine (19-31) out of the gates on Tuesday, as the Knights scored three runs in each of the first two innings.
Louisville responded though, scoring twice in the second and seven more times in the third to move out to a 9-6 lead.
Kade Elam got the Cardinals on the board with a two-run homer in the second, his sixth of the season.
Tague Davis then added to his Louisville and ACC single-season records with a two-run shot of his own in the third, giving him 34 on the season. The 34th homer of the year moved him to ninth all-time in season in NCAA history and the third-highest total this century.
The Cardinals were far from done in the third though. A pair of wild pitches scored Jimmy Nugent and Lucas Moore. Louisville then got RBI singles from Ben Slanker, Zion Rose and Griffin Crain.
After the three-spots in the first two innings, Louisville got five consecutive zeros with scoreless innings from Anthony Karbowski, Eli Hoyt, TJ Schlageter, Jake Gregor and Casen Murphy.
Meanwhile, the Cards tacked on another run in the sixth on a Bayram Hot sacrifice fly. Elam then launched his second homer of the night leading off the seventh for his first career multi-homer night. Moore delivered a two-run single in later in the frame to give the Cardinals 13 unanswered runs after falling behind 6-0.
Rose capped Louisville's night with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
All nine Cardinals scored at least one run in the win. Seven players had multiple hits, led by Crain's 3-for-5 night. Elam drove in three, while Rose, Moore and Davis added two each.
Karbowski (1-1) earned his first career win with his scoreless inning of work. Tanner Thomas closed out the game by recording the final five outs.
