2007 Preseason All-BIG EAST
2006: Posted a .317 average with 16 doubles, four home runs, and 44 RBI to go with a .991 fielding percentage. Hit safely in all four games of BIG EAST Championship. Went 6 for 10 with three 2B, HR and seven RBI in first three games of BE Championship. His solo home run with one out in the eighth tied up the game and keyed a five-run eighth inning in the Saturday win over Seton Hall (5/19). Drew a career-best three walks in win over Morehead (5/16). Smacked a pair of doubles and walked twice in win over Villanova (5/13). Added a three-hit effort in win over Murray (5/3). Was one off of Doug Lorenz's school record with 18 putouts against Western (4/25). Belted a pair of doubles, scoring twice in win over Evansville (4/11). Made BIG EAST Honor Roll after huge weekend in Washington, D.C. Was 3 for 5 with three RBI in final game of Georgetown series. Erupted for a career-best six RBI on a 3 for 4 effort in which he scored twice and was hit by a pitch in Saturday win over the Hoyas (4/8). Belted his second home run of the season off of UCONN (3/31) ace Tim Norton in 2 for 4 effort. Went 2 for 3 with a walk, driving in a run in the win over EKU (3/29). Was 2 for 3 with a double and a HBP in win over Ball State (3/17). Followed that effort up with a 3 for 4, driving in a run the following day. Went 2 for 4 with two RBI at UGA (3/11). Was 1 for 2 with a pair of walks, scoring twice and driving in two in win over EMU (3/4). Had three-hit effort in win over northwestern (2/24). Went 6 for 13 in series against Wildcats with a double, home run and six RBI. Drove in three in win over Northwestern (2/24) after two-hit effort against Xavier (2/22). Scored three runs in the opener at Miami (2/15).
2005: Played in all but three games as a true freshman, starting 42 times at first and DH. Hit .271 with seven doubles, two home runs and 25 RBI. Walked 24 times, good for fourth on the team in 2005. Went 1 for 3 with a walk, driving in one in win over UAB (5/19). Homered on 2 for 3 effort against USM(4/30b). Went 3 for 5 with four runs scored in win at SLU (4/24). Was 2 for 3 with a double, two walks and two RBI in win at Xavier (4/20). Singled twice against ECU (4/15). Drilled a two-run double in the sixth to lift the Cards to a 3-2 win at Houston (4/9). Was 6 for 13 in three games against #1 Tulane with three runs and an RBI. Went 3 for 5 with three RBI in conference opener at UC (3/18). Came off the bench to go 2 for 2 in win over NIU (3/15). Was 2 for 4 with two more RBI in win over #12 Georgia (3/13). Hit a pair of doubles in win over Toledo (2/25), scoring once and driving in a run. Homered on his first collegiate pitch in won over Kent (2/18). Followed that effort with a four-RBI day in 11-4 win the next day.
High School: Picked up four letters in baseball at first base. Was team MVP as a freshman. Lead the team in RBI as a sophomore, earning honorable mention All-County. Was 2nd team All-County and honorable mention All-State his junior year. Named 1st Team All-County, 3rd Team All-State and was team RBI king his senior season. Had single season highs of .500 average, 16 doubles, 10 home runs, 36 runs and 46 RBI during his HS career. Cracked 22 home runs in four years with 145 RBI in his career.
Personal: Born 9/26/86 in Miami Beach, Florida to Jorge and Karen Castillo. Is the youngest of three. He is majoring in exercise science at U of L. Biggest thrill in sports was winning the Florida HS baseball championship. Wants to play pro ball and get his degree. He likes to play ping pong, racquetball, poker and pool in his spare time. Scarface, Spiderman and Rush Hour 2 are his favorite movies. Everybody Loves Raymond is his favorite TV show. Likes Mexican, Italian, Fruity Pebbles and Snickers. The Yankees and Marlins are his favorite teams. Jason Giambi, Rafael Palmiero and Barry Bonds are his favorite athletes. His grandfather played for the Cuban National Team and has been his biggest influence on him athletically.
