Cardinals Complete Day 1 of Competition at the Louisville Last Chance Meet

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 11/8 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams along with competitors from Illinois, No. 25/NR Kentucky and Notre Dame raced the clock and used the natural team rivalries to attempt to put up faster times for NCAA consideration Friday evening at the Louisville Last Chance Meet at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
Competition will resume at 10 a.m. this evening at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

In the 200 IM finals, Drew Collins shaved 1.27 off his prelim trials to go 1:48.42.

In the 500 free, Merve Tuncel turned in a 4:56.09 for the Ville, just ahead of Illinois' Taylor Judas 4:56.13.

In the 100 breast, Gwen Bakker of Illinois stopped the clock at 1:04.18. Kentucky's Adomas Gatulis dropped time from his prelim to post a 52.37.

Rye Ulett shaved .73 from her 200 back prelim to clock a 1:53.31. Filip Kosinski dropped .81 in the men's 200 back to go 1:39.99.

In the 100 free, Imogen Meers dipped under 50 to post a 49.60 and fellow Notre Dame swimmer Hollie Widdows was second with a 50.33. Louisville's Bianca Costea was third in 50.63. Illinois went third through seventh led by Sophia Yousuf's 50.92.

For the men's 100 free, Matias Santiso cruised to a win with a time of 43.56 for the Cardinals ahead of teammates Rob Ehrenborg (44.74), Charlie Crush (56.90) and Aiden Musso (1:00.09) and Ethan Chauliguet (1:03.62).

In the 200 fly, UK's Maddy Hartley was first into the wall with a 1:57.82 beating ND's Lainey Mullins (1:58.26).

In the men's 200 fly, Aidan Paro was into the wall first with a 1:42.74 and Thomas Powers-Hammond dropped .89 to go 1:43.58 to go second. Gustavo Saldo posted a 1:45.35.
