
No. 7 Louisville's Women Swimming Takes Down Notre Dame 220-78

Notre Dame, Ind. --Â The No. 7 University of Louisville women's swimming team defeated Notre Dame in an Atlantic Coast Conference faceoff Friday evening, outscoring the Irish 220-78.
The women's highlights included multiple event winners in Gabi Albiero (100 free, 100 fly, 200 relay), Ella Welch (100 IM, 400 relay, 200 relay), Julia Dennis (200 Medley, 50 Free, 400 relay, 200 relay),  Mia Cheatwood (100 breast, 200 breast), and Darla Golovaty (200 free, 200 back, 500 free)

The Louisville women started the meet strong with a win in the 200 relay, posting a time of 1:27.20, thanks to performances from the foursome of Caroline Larsen, Gabi Albiero, Ella Welch, and Julia Dennis.
Louisville's Daria Golovaty took home the top time in the 200 free, finishing in 1:44.93. Teammates Fernanda Gomes Celidonio (1:45.02) and Summer Cardwell (1:46.10) finished behind her to complete a top three sweep of the event.Â

In the 100 backstroke, the Cardinals' Paige Hetrick took home the top spot, finishing in 52.79. ND's Madelyn Christman finished runner-up with a time of 53.48. Louisville's Kim Emely Herkle (53.54) rounded out the top three.

A pair of Cardinals finished top two in the 100 breaststroke thanks to performances from Mia Chestwood (58.77) and Caroline Larsen (1:00.45). Notre Dame's Emily Kitayama touched third with a time of 1:02.31.

Tristen Ulett won the 200 butterfly for the Cards with a 1:55.90, with teammate Camden Doane (1:57.01) coming in second. Lainey Mullins posted a 1:57.32 to come in third for the Irish.
In the 1000 freestyle, Notre Dame locked down the top two slots with performances from Maggie Graves and Sophia Karras. Louisville's Merve Tuncel posted the top time with a 10:05.66.
UofL made it a 1-2-3 clean sweep in the 100 free thanks to the efforts of Gabi Albiero (48.76), Daria Golovaty (49.28), and Lucy Mehraban (49.53).
In the 200 backstroke, Louisville's Paige Hetrick finished ahead of the pack with a 1:53.74, seeing Madelyn Christman (1:56.22) finish in second for Notre Dame. Kim Emely Herkle touched in 1:56.62 for a top three finish.Â
In the 100 IM, Louisville's Ella Welch touched first, posting a winning time of 54.20. Teammates Fernanda Gomes Celidonio (54.25) and Tristen Ulett (54.45) finished in second and third, respectively. Â
In the 200 medley relay, Louisville's A team of Camille Murray (25.12), Caroline Larsen (27.12), Karoline Barrett (23.24), and Julia Dennis (21.58) combined for the winning finish of 1:37.06. The Cardinals' B team posted the runner-up time of 1:39.02, with performances from Avery Karl (25.00), Mia Cheatwood (27.29), Bianca Costea (24.59), and Abby Karl (22.14).Â
Julia Dennis won the 200 breaststroke with a 21.98. Ella Welch and Avery Karl closed out the top three for the Cardinals, posting times of 22.71 and 22.76, respectively.

The Cardinals won the 500 freestyle when Daria Golovaty turned in a 4:43.13 and Summer Cardwell earned third-place points with a 4:47.78. Notre Dame's Mary Cate Pruitt posted the second-place time, finishing in 4:47.32.
Mia Cheatwood (2:07.74) secured the win in the 200 breaststroke, with teammate Kim Emely Herkle (2:10.76) finishing in second. ND's Reese Lugbill rounded out the top three with a time of 2:17.29.

The Cardinals completed another sweep on the evening in the 200 IM. Senior Fernanda Gomes Celidonio posted the top time, finishing the event in 1:57.50. Tristen Ulett (1:58.35) and Camden Doane (2:00.47) rounded out the top three for UofL.

In the final event of the evening, Louisville brought home the top two spots in the 400 freestyle relay, with Caroline Larsen (48.80), Julia Dennis (48.67), Lucy Mehraban (48.58), and Ella Welch (48.89) to combine for a 3:14.94 finish for the Cards. Louisville's B relay finished in second with a time of 3:17.11, with efforts from Paige Hetrick (49.26), Darla Golovaty (49.12), Gabi Albiero (49.24), and Avery Karl (49.49).Â
