Cottrell and Comerford pace Cards
After the first day of racing, the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team both trail the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Cardinal men trail UNC 107-59 and the women trail 115-52.

"I give credit to the opponent tonight.  It seemed we could not find a way to get our hands on the wall, said Arthur Albiero, UofL head coach. "I don't think any of the close races went our way. We structured this back-to-back meet to mimic a championship format so we will find a way to better tomorrow. "

The Cards notched two wins in the evening with Mallory Comerford's victory in the 500-free and Andrea Cottrell's win in the 100-breast.

In the women's 200-free relay team touched second with a 1:31.82 put up by Andrea Kneppers, Kelsi Worrell, Mallory Comerford and Andrea Cottrell.

The men's 200-free relay foursome of Grigory Tarasevich, Trevor Carroll, David Boland and Matthias Lindenbauer put up a 1:20.99 for second place.

Rachael Bradford Feldman was into the wall second with a time of 2:02.21.31. . Nolan Tesone was second in the men's 200-IM with a 1:48.71 followed by teammate Carlos Claverie was third in 1:49.83 and Josh Quallen was fourth in 1:50.31.

Freshman Mallory Comerford notched the first win of the night with a 4:47.64 in the 500-free. Marah Pugh was fourth, boarding a 4:55.09. Trevor Carroll was the top Cardinal in the men's 500 with a fourth place time of 4:31.93.

Andrea Cottrell won the 100-breast with a time of 1:01.91. Carlos Claverie was third in the men's event with a 55.17.

Freshman Alina Kendzior was third in the the 200-back with a 1:59.46. Grigory Tarasevich won the men's 200-back with a time of 1:45.12. Aaron Greene made it a 1-2 Cardinal sweep with a 1:45.70 and Nolan Tesone was fourth in 1:47.31.

Kelsi Worrell was second in the 100-free with a 49.44. evor Carroll was second in the men's 100-free with a 44.69.

In the 200-fly, Marah Pugh's 2:02.75 was good for fourth and Mallory Comerford was fifth in 2L03.63.

In the women's 3-meter diving, Andrea Acquista was second with a scored of 315.98 and Maddy Ingmire was fourth, posting a 265.58.

The 400-medley relay team of Alina Kendzior (54.85), Andrea Cottrell 1:01.76, Kelsi Worrell 48.66 and Andrea Kneppers (54.00) combined for a 3:39.27 and touched second.

The men's medley relay tream of Grigory Tarasevich, Carlos Claverie, Pedro Coutinho, Matthias Lindenbauer teamed to post a 3:14.74 for second place.
